Utah!

Yaay for tiny Icie!

Sun, her chick is one of my lavenders. Wendy now has two of them. Wendy, I forgot to mention that I loved that picture of her hanging with one of your others. She and the Speckled S. were so close. My Speckeled Sussex has finally settled down, hangs with the other three pullets her age, and now comes around me, just talkin away. A new thing. Talks to me the whole time I'm in the coop area with her.
Those laveneders are so small, I doubt that they will be laying sooner than later, but..on the other hand, those leghorns are small, and they lay early. Have to have all the signs first..especially that red comb.

Ann, how is the blue doing? Sounded like she just fit right in pretty quick.

Wendy, that's awful...poor baby. What part of the arm broke? How old was this one? Was she here when you came? I remember your older daughter..your twin. I know there was another cute little one..with the glasses? Was it her? That is something I never went through, with all of my kids! I think I may have had it made up in having my son with Spina Bifida. Lots of bone work done there on his little legs. He did get a fracture on one leg, had it casted, then it fractured again not long after the cast was off, but it was expected for him to break bones easy in the legs. That was the only time though! All of those other kids..how did I luck out?
Got our new vynal fence up!!

Sundance..I have a pip! See, smaller eggs, usually early pips. One out of the 4 showgirls.

A pip I am sooo jealous. I went to the airport this morning and shipped 2 cats to new york, Came back and looked no pip. The sizzle eggs are all small. I guess lockdown means you can't open bator and look can you. I got the humidity under control. I am thinking it was the ee that I got in Jan that laid the mystery blue egg and she is much bigger than the Americana

Yeah, EE is my bet for you, Sundance. When did you set your eggs on Sunday? I would expect to start seeing pips about 12 hours before that mark.

Cynthia- yeah, the 7 year old girl with the glasses. My kids are daredevils to the point that I actually bought Aflac accident insurance so I get a cash payout when they get hurt. One could say I've gambled that they WILL hurt themselves. This is our third or fourth broken arm. This particular kid isn't as accident prone- before this, she'd only gotten stitches once, broke a finger, and knocked out three teeth, put her teeth through her lips....

i didn't write down the time I put them in. Next time I will. When my kids were little we lived on a horse ranch, Had 18 acres. They were always getting banged up. My son broke his foot jumping down 3 steps. I didn't believe it was broken so I made him stay off it and waited a day, Next day when I took him to dr. It was broken in 4 places. I felt terrible. Didn't slow him down a bit we wrapped cast in plastic and away he went on his 4 wheeler. He was my outlaw child. I was on a first name basis with most the cops in Utah county because of that little darlin. Now He owns a huge solar company in Phoenix very successful business man and his 4 year old son is just like him Rotten bad to the bone and cute as can be. His older child is an angel and so good they thought having a second kid would be a snap. Now he's getting his just deserts, He wants his kids to grow up like he did so he has bought some acerage and is building a huge home. He is putting in an RV pad for us and wants some chickens so I am hoping I get this hatching thing down, Then when we go down to visit this winter for a month or two I can hatch some chicks for them. Still no pips my husband said to leave them along and quite looking through the window at the eggs, He said i'll give them a complex

Sorry about your daughter's arm, sphinx!! That's rotten, but I can see how you wouldn't want to return a damaged child, either=)

Sun...this cracked me up...."He said i'll give them a complex" Sounds like something my DH would say=)

Red... glad that chickis is doing better!! DH is coming back today, I can't wait to see those chicks!!

I think it's time to set up a 'grow-out' pen, my teenagers are in the coop/split with the hens, but that means the hens come out in the yard during the day, and it's starting to drive me crazy having them out everyday... I like them to be able to free range, just not everyday.. Maybe I'll convert the brooder box into a little house for them and surround it with chicken wire... but then these new ones from Cynthia are probably too young to put outside yet...hmmm... will have to think about it!!

I know there's other stuff I read that I wanted to comment on... sorry, don't remember now=)

Does anyone know where I can get an Orpington that is any other color than "buff" around here? My mom has a buff Orpington that we both love because she is so friendly and a total lap chicken. I would like to get her another one but I would like it to be a different color like blue, black, white, or whatever. Does anyone raise anything like that in Utah?
I do have some blues, blacks, possible splash as well as some crosses... I'm in Idaho Falls, and yes I do need to sell about 100 birds!!!

I think it's Swedish Flower Hen. I have no idea if anyone breeds them.

Sundance, any pips yet? Do you giggle slightly evilly when your rotten son complains about his karmic son? I've been a little nervous because although I was a well behaved child, my husband was pretty rotten too. He's grown up to be a great guy though.

I'm in the "I didn't take my kid to the doctor for a broken bone" club too- my eldest had just turned 7 and fell on the playground. At the time, we were going swimming every day, and she hated the idea of being a cast and not getting to go swimming any more. So, the day it happened, she said it hurt, but not *that* bad. I gave her some ice and motrin and kind of forgot about it. 5 days later, I notice that she's writing with her less dominant hand, and asked her why. She said because she felt like it, but was shifty about the whole thing. So I forced her to admit it hurt to write with the other hand. I started looking over it closely, and found a little bump. Took her to the doctor, and yep. Broken arm.

Cynthia, and hatches yet?

Yes I tell him all the time when he calls me with Lucas latest exploit complaining about him that its pure Karma and he's only 4 He says no wonder it takes a village to raise a kid. I say just say wait until hes older and laugh. No pips or sound from incubator number one. waiting waiting,I think I'm a failure at this egg hatching thing, I set the eggs from incubator number two just now, So we'll see what Tuesday brings. I sold a kitten today. A very happy young lady who is getting it for graduation

DH came home with the chicks!!! 2 FBCM's and 3 Leghorn EE's from Cynthia !! THANK YOU so much Cynthia and Red for your help getting them=) It's official, my chicken math is pretty messed up... I now have 24 chickens.... 6 hens, 3 pullets, 6 teenagers and 9 chicks.... sheesh I think I need help=)

Pics:

You can see the EE's cool puffy cheeks... should be a cool looking bird, and the FBCM's have great feathered feet!!

One big happy family... with the Wheaten Amer's from Lisa and Delaware's from birdguy... how awesome is it that most of my chickens are from fellow BYCer's?? (4 of the teenagers are from chickenstock and the 3 pullets are from Azriel=)
