Wow. I'm down to 3 viable showgirls. I candled tonight, expected two possibles to be no good, but there were a lot of quitters.

That's interesting..yarn instead of tape, or bandaid...that could work. Use it for half a day, take it off in the morning and see how she is walking. She will still walk funny at first, because she will be used to having that yarn on, will feel funny with it off at first. By an hr. see how she is doing..still walking with the legs out wide? Bring them together again.

I am sorry about your eggs. Dang it. I didn't know about tape I thought yarn would be lighter and easy

Good luck with that baby sundance! Cynthia, too bad those eggs are so tough to hatch eh? Hopefully the rest will. And if there is no showgirl for Lisa, Lisa will be better off hahaha......
We should have a race to see who gets a new egg first. Sounds like Sphinx has a few close, Cynthia, myself, Sasha.......pretty exciting! Hey! utahchickendad......you never post anymore, hope you are feeling better, and hope your chickens are doing good! Let us know when you get that first egg...pretty exciting! I have a neighbor that got 4 in April, her very first, and she is just getting so exctited for an egg. She has a GSL, BR, BA, and EE. I told her to watch that GSL, my bets are on her. Mine and my neighbors both started at 17 weeks. Hooray for new layers....I am excited, can you tell?

This was reminding me Cynthia, when I first met you, you posted on here that you had met me and that it was fun to meet someone who has the chicken bug. Remember that? That was in December, 2011........and I had 7 chickens. Wow how things change lol and you hit the nail right on the head. I think my first post on here was trying to get rid of the mean EE Zirk that I had that ripped my bantam partridge Cochin's head open.....then she got eggbound and we had to put her down this spring......I was just reminiscing, and smiling about my original flock, almost all of them are gone now. Hope the new girls are a little sweeter, and hope more are still with me this time next year!

I'm excited. I heard the egg announcement for the first time in a long time, because neither my leghorn or my sexlink have done that for ever..they just lay their egg and leave. This was loud, didn't sound at all like my two girls, and sure enough, when I went out..almost running..lol..the NH jumped down from the roost..but...no egg from her! She is just getting excited from the others laying. My leghorn jumped down from a nest, so I think the NH was just talking about it. Loud! Yesterday, I caught her, and did the back rub thing, and boy, she didin't try to run away at all, she fluffed up, squat, and just stayed there while I rubbed her behind her wings. Supposedly, that gets them going when they are getting close. You never know, but then she did sing today.
I remember you story Lisa of that mean EE. I was surprised to hear that an EE was mean. But I'm not now. I've had a few meanies since then, including that lavender, but I sure am happy that she found a place at Wendy's.
I remember the first time meeting you at Windco! lol..I had a feeling that was you when I saw you heading for your truck while we were walking around the parking lot looking for something with a dog in it. ) You had gone into the store. You got the two blacks then. They sure grew up to be pretty. I remember thinking how beautiful you were.

Now, to see who gets that first pullet egg. Brad and I have a race going on between our Pencils. It sounds like his will be first.
Who was it...Red? That said, wouldn't it be something if my Exchequer laid first in all of my pullets? I wouldn't be surprised, if these others keep holding off, she might be tiny, but she is getting red! I was looking at Miss Piggy yesterday, she is so small, but gives me such a nice egg.
Well, off I go to the big outdoors, my front yard. Needs some tender loving care. I have to water the flowers.

Lisa, wants, but doesn't need a showgirl if all three hatch. That's a big wish for me, that they all hatch.
Sundance has the showgirl coming to her when she gets back from Alaska that I have now. No bow tie on the neck, and she likes that because it reminds her of her cats. Still makes me smile.
Red is getting the Exchequer, because she deserves a break today! It will be fun to see how this one spots out, will be very pretty, different than the one I am keeping.

I think that's it, except to say that we have yet another sweetheart of a gal doing the shuttle work..Sasha! It will be fun to meet someone else on here!

So much has happened in my last chicken calendar year! That is how I keep track of time now, by hatches and chicken acquisitons.....hehe You know you are bad when you remember your chickens birthdays and can't remember you grandkids.....

Hooray! Just got a call from Michelle (pawtraitart) at QCU. My FBCM are ready to be picked up. I am headed over next week, she said she had a couple extra olive eggers, that were getting big and needed to go ASAP so if anybody wants me to get anything......she has extra FBCM Roos for 10-15 bucks and the Olive Eggers are $15. They have puffy cheeks and I don't know what colors but she said she has a blue one, that one i might get. She said there were several F1 (med olive) and some F2 (roll the dice, dark dark olive or dark brown like Marans...)

Sphinx, I thought you might like this....I was asking her about the feather sexing on my little FBCM I hatched, because I have two very distincltly different feathering going on. She said indeed sometimes it is easy and sometimes not....she said last years were super easy to tell,. and this years almost impossible, and would be boys were turning out to be girls. She has been waiting until they are about 5 weeks to be sure because she has had so many pull the switcherooo on her with her flock this year. She said it depends on the parents and varies greatly. Man I hope my little girl and boy are really just that......She said the wing sexing is not always accurate, so will see what happens :/ My would be girl has tial feathers, longer wing feathers....and is smaller, the would be boy is bigger, has no tail feathers at all, and wings are much shorter and rounder. But his comb looks more girlie than the small one, it is a little pink ?!

Now that you know it will be declared a total loss, get online or go to local dealers. Find the same model truck in year and approximate mileage and get a written quote (or print off the online asking price) on the value of the truck (dealer price, not private party price). Only if the adjuster has a lower figure, take the highest 5 truck values and present them to your insurance adjuster to negotiate a higher payoff. The key is, a little work may be worth a few extra thousand in your pocket. If you take the first offer they give you, you could be cheating yourself. (unless you have a really good adjuster that will work with you towards the benefit of you instead of the company). Vehicle prices vary from location to location as well as time of year so use that to your advantage. If you have to travel to Provo or Ogden to get a higher quote, it may be worth the drive. Stay away from places like Tooele because small towns generally have cheaper vehicles so they can move them. Stay away from super big dealers because they make profit by selling lots of cars instead of expensive cars.

Hope this helps and hope you find something you like. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. Dealers, insurance adjusters and body shops all hate me because I will make them work harder to get me what I need.

Thank you greatly for the advice, Rex. I think we'll get a fair value on the truck, but it's nice to know how to fight back if they try to give us a pathetic amount.

Bah, I want to jump in on the first-to-lay race, but I think my girls are going to be a little later than everyone else's. All five of the big girls are going pretty pink in the face (GLW, BSL, BO, EE, Wellie) but I've mentioned before that the most prominent ones are the Welsummer and the Wyandotte. Upon further observation yesterday, I noticed with some shock that the EE is suddenly pinking up (she used to be pretty pale, even in the last couple of months) and the BO is now as pink as the GLW! She's a month younger than all the rest. But still, alas, they are all pink, not red. In my defense, I must have seen red (no pun intended) the other night due to bad lighting and the fact I've been very tired lately

Would you buy that? No? Okay, next subject then.

I feel a little silly asking, but what does the F1 and F2 denote for chickens?

Boy, you'd have fun with Icelandics, then. They really keep you guessing. I'm hoping this little one I got from Cynthia turns out to be a girl. She's so mild and sweet, pleeeeeease don't be another boy! My brother has dubbed her Sheila, for good luck.

Cynthia, this little Leghorn EE I got from you is keeping me on my toes, too. He/she is very peppy and in great health, but feathering out more slowly. You said pointy wing tips on the babies usually means girls, right? That's what this one's wings have been doing, but, urg, I dunno any more. I guess I'll just have to have fun waiting
