Utah!

Well im of to watch my Daughter Tarah (8) do a kids TRI. Im doing the bike part and run with her. It should be fun. Its not very big but the kids think its awesome.

I feel a little silly asking, but what does the F1 and F2 denote for chickens?

According to Michelle----F1 is first generation, meaning the pure marans bred to a pure ameraucana for the first time for the olive egg. F2 is a second pairing, of the olive egger back to a marans again to get darker olive color. It works or does not 50/50 ish. I have seen people on here use that term for F3 and F4 too so it denotes the continued generations and dilution of the pure genes.....BUT I have no idea what the "F" actually stands for lol :p
I will have to ask her. :D

The fire in Utah Valley has my asthma acting up so I had to come home and get on my oxygen. I was suppose to help Christie tomorrow on Tour de Coops I hope the smoke is gone by tomorrow as I was really looking forward to meeting everyone taking the tour. I am so mad. I have too much to do to be asthmatic. I took the yarn off the chick she is walking normally. The lady I got the sizzle eggs from said that is caused from incubation issues. I had a couple of phone calls from rescues going to the west side of the lake to help evacuate animals. I would normally be first in line but not now. Its hell to get old

Hey Everybody!
Just found this thread. Looks fun!

We are chicken newbs as of Feb when we got our little fuzzy butts and we are IN LOVE!!
We have a mix including 2 silkies. Sadly, I think we might have a rooster silkie in the mix, which we were not planning for.
They are 18 Weeks old (4 months) and one seems to have started crowing. I have read that some hens crow, so we might wait until they start laying to see if we can determine what we have on our hands but I just thought I would throw this out there in case we have to give her/him away....

Would anyone be interested in a silkie roo?
It is one of the yellow-ish orange with a little bit of charcoal in the tail feathers.
I can post pics if anyone is interested.
We are in the downtown SL area

Also we are working on our coop. Our goal is under $50 and we are about 3/4 the way done and are at $15 spent!
Any suggestions for materials scraps are welcome!!
Here is a link to my thread for the coop build.

Nice coop so far! Could I suggest something for you to consider on it? I would recommend reinforcing the legs on that nest box. It would help make it sturdier.

Sundance, sorry that the smoke is giving you problems. Yuck!

Alright, so do we have anyone down by the fire in Lehi? I have an aunt that lives two blocks from the area that's being evacuated. I was quite surprised to see all this smoke this morning when I came outside. I was up at 5 am and there wasn't anything to even suggest a fire was going on. If anyone is in that area, be safe! Also, if someone is there and needs to evacuate, let me know. I might be able to house any chickens you have until you can go home.

Brocknash.....nice job finding supplies to make that coop! It looks nice and big too! Welcome! A few people on here have mentioned a Re-store Habitat for Humanity place that sells stuff for cheap.....Birdman and Sphinx have been there.......they would be the ones to ask.....I want to check it out when I am down there.

Sundance, hope you get feeling better and can get back to doing the things you want!

Sheesh the fires sound awful, and all this wind today is probably wreaking havoc down there! Hope everyone is ok!

Hey Red!!! I see you have your Delaware in your avatar...which prompts me to ask you if you want one of my Delaware chicks....I am coming your way Saturday.....c'mon.....don't ya have just a little more room now?
