, polemic.

Update on coop-madness, Cache Valley style. I have the poles up and now I just need to add the fencing, gate, and ramps to the coop.

So the chain link on the left, that is Sierra's duck pen, then the posts around the coop will be for the run, and the butt in the far right, that is the horse, Karma.

Nice butt

Okay okay, sorry. I'll grow up someday. Maybe.

Welcome, polemic! Glad you're here with us.

Blu, how's it going with the hatch? Have they driven you nuts yet?

we ended up doing some fireworks because my new nephew wanted to and well its hard to say no to his sweet little face :love it was nice to see the fire department and police out in full force. they were checking tons of people and when needed were giving out huge fines, one person said in some cases they handed out $800 fines. i have never seen the fire department and police so active making sure people did not break the law with fireworks.

I have to say, I don't know how you all hatch eggs all the time. I do not have the patience for this....I am so antsy...This is almost worse than waiting for goats to kid.

Cindy, with the chicks, it was hard! All the hurry up and wait (even though being a military wife for 16 years taught me that's how life is) will drive you crazy! But with duck eggs, it's even worse. By FAR! How has the hatch turned out?
Woohoo! Babies!!! Thanks for posting those.

I think I'm going to owe my dh bigtime. He's killing himself in the hot weather, trying to get the larger enclosure done before he leaves tomorrow for scout camp so that the chickens can play outside again. It's going to be awesome, though I think they'll not have anything on top til next week.

Enclosure surrounding new chicken coop (chicken coop abuts our shed). You can see neighbor's barn in the background, and if you look carefully, some small calves.

This is my current chicken set up, on the other side of the barn. Where that wood is propped against the fence, we'll join the two runs together, but leave the opening small enough so that if/when I want to divide the flock, it'll be easy.
Oh, your chickens are going to be so happy with their new run! I'm really excited to get my chickens into their new run. It's a little smaller than what they are in during the day now, but they will appreciate being able to come and go in the coop as they please, instead of waiting on us for a "ride" across the pasture. :) We are going to put up bird netting across the top. We did that with the duck pen already, as well as put up some of the mesh shade fabric....the Magpies were stealing the ducks food!

Oh, and those "helping" calves are sure cute!
Hi, I'm in Eden Utah. Just got our first flock in April. Love them! Hoping they start laying soon!
Welcome, Polemic! You aren't too terribly far from us, in Hyrum.

Well at the moment we have 3 barred rock and 1 jersey Giant...and one of Lisa's Yellow eggs hatched! I gotta get pics of that one soon it is really cute.
I have not checked close yet, but hope there is a few more pips.

Hey all, glad we survived the 4th without any new major fires breaking out. Loving the clouds and smell of rain in the air today!

Great pics... especially love the cows helping hubby pic. So cute!!

Thought I'd share a couple pics of my two favorite girls, even though they aren't chickens.

Here is Spirit (my crippled grey dewlap) and Barley, my buff dewlap.

this is the little one from the yellow egg...I believe EE. Not the best pic, but it is really fat and fluffy and looks like a chipmunk.
None of the other eggs made it. I checked and they were all dead. they were sideways and upside down. I hope it wasn't from the first chicks playing soccer but I am guessing that is what happened. They were really making a mess before I got those first 3 out.
Anyway we got 5 and at least got one from the yellow egg that Lisa wanted.

Iain-I love your geese! That grey dewlap is one of the most adorable little things I've ever seen! I'm slowly trying to convince my hubby that we need a goose.

Cindy, this year has just been bad for hatching, hasn't it? :( But at least Lisa got one EE. :) And what a cutie it is.

blu, that is so sweet of you to do this for her. Those chicks are so cute, she will be very happy that she got a yellow egg to hatch!

Wendy, your hubby really does look like he's hot out there...you know, the sweaty hot kind of hot..

What time of day was this? Whew...
That's going to be some set up for some real lucky chickens!

Someone from Eden?

Yes, tell us, what kind of chickens do you have? If you are a chicken addict, this is the place to come and share your addiction, I promise, there will be no one, nope, not one soul who will try to stop your chicken addiction.

Iain, I haven't read all of the posts I'm sure, to have missed out on why your duck is crippled? Or wait. Is that a goose? Man, that buff is gorgeous!

Sasha! You are coming on Sunday then? Just tell me what time you will be here. I can be here.

I have been really sick. Now Sasha is thinking..what? Oh boy, it was bad. A summer cold. I was flat on my back yesterday..today, much better. It started Tues., but yesterday was the worst.
Then last night, as I was laying in bed trying to sleep, it sounded like a war zone out there. I do believe there were more fireworks let off this year than last year in our neighborhood. How can people afford those two second burst in the air shows? I can't see spending that kind of money on those things, when I could be spending it on eggs to hatch out! Good grief.

Oh yes, I guess I wanted to forget this part..none of my showgirls made it. :(

I am here in Fairbanks waiting for a plane to take me to north pole for a visit. I'll be home tomorrow so expect some emails with chicken pics and Alaska pics. My daughter tells my I won't recognize the sizzles as they have gotten so big. TTYS

I wish I had thought to check sooner, not that I could have saved them. I am happy we ended up with 5.
I am glad we at least got the one out of the yellow egg....She wanted that one, hope it is a girl.
this fat little EE that looks like a chipmunk and the Jersey Giant, plus the 3 little barred rock...One of the tiny ones was upside down and pipped on the wrong end...but made it out himself. I will try and get some pics later on today.

and since I am so far behind on here...Hope you are all doing well.
I promise I will try and keep up.....
