Utah!

I have been selling a few eggs this year. Their not consistent they due good one week and hardly nothing for 2 to 3 weeks then back laying good again.but all go's well should still be selling at least eggs in the spring.

The only project I have going is trying to make Bantam olive eggers. I will know if it worked in about month or so.

That sounds fun! Be sure to share pics of those eggs if it works! Will have to holler at you in the spring when I get back to hatching mode :D (still in hatching mode, trying desperately not to put eggs in that bator.....) I have boycotted shipped eggs when at all possible. Sooooo much money wasted this year on those.

I know how you feel on shipped eggs. I was good this year and only bought two batches eggs and got some on crazy egg chains. The past few years I was spending $400.00 to $700.00 on eggs and had terrible hatches.

I have couple breeds I just can't get to hatch or they hatch then all die before they reach maturity.

Hi guys, I just joined BYC and I'm in Utah too!

Welcome!!! I'm from Idaho, but I was born in Provo, and DH is from Kaysville, so I think that counts, right??

I spent the day at the vet. My girl had a csect and spay. 3 kittens all doing fine. I also had eggs hatching 6 so far 6 more pipped. Pretty excited. The big dark dark brown hasn't pipped yet waiting waiting. I have had some frizzle Americanas hatch, a Auracana hatch and olive eggers hatch, Hubby got excited and put out the out of the incubator into the brooder incubator as I have so many eggs I am moving them after they hatch and dry. I have color ziplocks I;m putting different colors for the breed. Hope it works. My new incubator seems to be doing a better job that the styrofoam.

Sheesh!! Sounds like you've had a busy day, sorry for your kittie, but at least she is doing ok... So cool on the eggs hatching!! sounds like you always order some pretty neat ones.. the temptation to get a bator is intensifying... DH was talking casually about what I wanted for Christmas, and I said....... gues what??

Hey they look great. Poor hen has to start somewhere. Give her a kiss and tell her to keep trying

Here here, sometimes they just take a bit, but maybe the kiss will help!! That's why they call them pullet eggs... My pretty new olive eggs are pretty small, too, but it hasn't even been a week yet...

Daloorashens, YES I have store bought eggs haha, I only have 3 (4 now, sort of that little egg does not count....) laying, and they are not getting the job done. I bought a box of white and brown last week. Shame on my girls for making me do that.....

I know, I had to give you a hard time....I knew that most of your girlies aren't quite old enough, but if you have 30, time to start networking selling those eggs!!

Wow!! Sounds like a neat project... can't wait to see pics!!

Oh, and how rude can I be?? Thanks everyone for voting for my Sam girl, I know it's silly, but just the same, thanks!!

Sold a couple of hens tonite, yippee!! Now there's more room for the girls Lisa is bringing... Btw.. do you live by Moriah quilts??

I believe Moriahquilts is south of me a ways....was it Magna? Can't remember for sure...Hey I am glad Sam won, she really was the best one on there, not just saying that :) And congrats on selling those hens. You are going to have a really fun flock !

Glad I am not the only one! I just got 5 out of 36 on shipped eggs!! Ouch. And the best hatches were on eggs that I picked up myself for sure.
Well if they lay the wrong color you can still post them and complain and we will all feel your pain  It is fun to see what the different mixes of breeds produce.

My STINKING Australorp never gave me the egg. She was in and out all day of the nests, getting her butt kicked by my layers, they really gave her the business. I threw them out, then they promptly ran to my garden and ate half my peas and dug holes everywhere. Meanwhile Miss Aussie sits in the nest, takes a little nap, goofs off in the nest for hours.

Hee hee hee!! They were sure you left the peas for them... Mine ate all the RIPE cherry tomatoes today! The first of the season...

Hello everyone! My DH and I are looking at possibly moving to Utah in about a year. We are currently looking at Sandy and Provo. I am having a hard time looking up chicken ordinances for those cities. We don't want to move somewhere where we can't bring the girls so...
Can anyone direct me to the proper website, or tell me, what the laws are regarding chickens, ducks, etc in those cities?

Lots zoned "agricultural" have few restrictions.

Sundance - Glad your kitties are ok. How are the zips (is that what you decided on) working? I've tried nail polish on the head - must reapply every three days and I don't like the fumes but its easy; pieces of colored drinking straw - worked well for tiny babies and you can write on it, but if you don't tape it some come off; and vet wrap strips around leg - works well after they are a few days old, but the older ones remove it, and yellow sticks better than blue. I've not found a great solution yet.

Chickiechan - Welcome!!

Daloorashens - Congrats on selling hens! I need to do some of that... And "Go Sam!". I'm in Lindon, its close to Provo, about 20 mins from Cynthia12.

Red - Sorry insurance wasn't better about your truck. Ugh.

G'night all!

I am originally from slc, but I recently moved back to ferron, in emery county and i am new to raising chickens. I was given my chickens, all proven egg layers, and are free range.
