So Guess what I found in the coop this morning?

One of the cuckoo marans layed an egg on the coop floor this morning.
Hopefully next time she will find the nest box.

Here it is next to the Silver laced wyandotte's egg and the Ameracauna's egg
Congrats!!

I am not sure of a few but I have 3 cochin ( 2 hens and a rooster) a dominique rooster and I have a wellsummer hen. The other hens I have I am not sure about what breed they are. I am hoping that I can post some pics soon so I can find out.

Moriah- thanks! I found Sandy's later last night, so that covers it. I kinda like Sandy's laws better.

. DH is currently trying to decide which city works better for us, he is applying to University of Utah for a second BA. He is getting out of the military next year and wants to work with kids with ADHD. Study skills, coping mechanisms, things like that.
The local transit authority UTA, will have a "Frontrunner" high-speed train finished in December which will make travel much easier from Utah County to the U. The U has a good Child Behavioral Health Unit, good choice.

Just remember that the HOAs seem to have a lot of power, My daughter can't have chickens even though the citys he lives in allows them because the Hoa requires that they have a fenced yard to keep the chickens behind. Then they also have to be kept in th run at all times and not allowed to free range in the yard. They also require they have one of those vinyl fences. I decided that if I ever move no HOA homes

:) :) :)

Congrats!!:thumbsup

Thanks for the tip on the child care, we will probably need it! I have been an at home mom for almost a year now and that may have to change when DH gets out. I'd love to stay an at home mom but with everything else it just might not be possible.

Burbs----So move to Logan, work at USU, and I will babysit :) I am a licensed preschool teacher and have daycare lol! And you can have loads of chickens with few rules :) And we have LOADS of fun at my house. Cutest kids on the planet here.

Sundance, hope that kitty perks up! Blujems, congrats on the egg! Looks like yours is looking smallish too......I got the second one from my BA this morning, and it is even smaller than the first one :/ :smack None of mine have started out that small, so not sure what to think. I have three more new girls currently sitting in nests, my expectations are getting high for new layers this week :)

Cynthia, love that pic, look like little smiling frog faces lol!

Things in the big coop are chaotic......with new guys sitting in the nests.....so I made three next boxes in my little coop this morning, a pic follows. My BA went right in there and did her business without being hassled so it will work out great, I just do not have the spycam in the little coop so we won't see who is laying, will have to watch close.

Check these out, I did it all by myself while DH was at work, I even dared to use the saw without losing fingers (I am severely accident prone so at my house there are many jokes about keeping me away from ladders and sharp objects....)

Cute huh!

Most of my hens have always started out with small eggs and then got bigger...course there are always the weird ones that start out big.

Casa...Nice on the nest boxes. I am impressed! Glad nobody got hurt!

hey that is so cool your husband wants to do that! been involved in the mental health community all my life but i mainly focus on the autism side of the community. yeah the u of u is a very good choice, he should see about a job working with kids at the u of u neurological institute, it will give him lots of experience and he will learn a lot for sure! if you have kids i would be careful about moving to sandy, the school district has issues lol. i like the west jordan area, the schools are doing so much better than they were and i feel they are one of the best school districts in the state now, they still have some issues but at least they are getting better. west jordan also has trax trains that will take you right up to the u of u and the taxes are not bad here and crime is a lot better here than other parts of the valley. chicken law here is 5 chickens, no roosters and 5 chicks limit with permit. but i will say most people here do not get the permit, not saying you should break city code but others here do....

I am originally from slc, but I recently moved back to ferron, in emery county and i am new to raising chickens. I was given my chickens, all proven egg layers, and are free range.

Welcome! My Grandparents were from Ferron.. still have a couple aunts and uncles in Ferron and Lawrence... Pretty country!!

Oh no!! Its not a child care program! Its for children with severe mental health issues.... What I meant was, that if your DH was going to study ADHD, learning disorders, etc, U of U would be a good place to study, because they run this program, and he could get 'hands on' experience with a range of child learning/mental health disorders.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
