Utah!

Sundancen, love the new babies! Those BO's are so sweet........well, usually. Mine can be a brat sometimes, heh. On the dog thing - The problem is, it's not just one dog that has been getting in the yardS (two different yards, would you believe that luck?) This beagle that showed up today is the worst that I know of thus far, though. He killed something around 8 chickens my boyfriend had over a year ago. One of the next door neighbors works in Animal Control, and I think it's a dog she rescued from either a bad home or not being adopted. She'll rehab some rescues in her yard on occasion, which is fine by me. The other dogs that have shown up include a golden retriever, a Mastiff, a couple of Malimutes, and some others that I either don't know the breed or they were mutts. Kind of interesting, though: I found out a little while ago that a couple of years back, some kind of Husky or Malimute jumped the fence and killed a calf my boyfriend was raising. And since I'm pretty sure that the owners of those two fine Mal's aren't going to pay for the turkey their dogs killed, I will keep that in mind if they ever show up again. It IS legal to shoot dogs killing your livestock in Utah, after all

Lisa, the sasserfrassin' beagle got our new turkey and one of the chickens. Don't know which chicken yet, but it was one of the boys. The girls have been confined to the run until mommy is on duty to babysit them. And on a different note, I love the pictures of your flock! Love Margarita's name

Those two Amer's do look boyish, though it's a little tougher call on that second one. Their tail feathers just have too much curl on the top, among other things. All three of the Amer's I got from the same batch are looking girly in comparison, though I'm keeping an eye on one of the blacks. She's more pink than the other two, and her tail is a lot larger. Has me a little worried.

Iain - You are awesome for helping to rescue so many geese! I'm sorry you couldn't get them all, though

If we are able to take a couple I will let you know as soon as I find out. I want to get a fence around the front of the yard, first.

CYnthia---yup! That blue boy was the tiny tot you sent with Red. I had named her Dorothy after my grandma lol....woops! I think there were 2 black and 1 blue in that batch from you, then that Splash Cindy has....one of the blacks may turn boy too, so I will have a black girl for sure....I really want those blue eggs lol! Of course the blue one, the only blue one I have is a boy

I really like those blues. Might try another time with a blue Ameraucana if anybody gets any nice blue eggs to hatch! I have lots of black chickens right now, the 3 olive EE's are black....then all the Marans...so If I get more Ameraucanas it will have to be splash or blue now. Ha ha my favorite breed I do believe---well I could pick 3, the Ameraucanas, Polish, and FBCM. Glad your polish chicks are doing well. They are so cute when they are little! Cannot wait to see them. Too bad about the showgirl...sounds like it was just not meant to be, esp where the other one was deformed, maybe those eggs got traumatized in transit. Dang those are hard to hatch huh! what size are those eggs? are they little bantam size or bigger? Just wondering what they lay. Glad you got some girls in those wheatens. Lots of girls in that hatch!
Sundance...cute mystery banty! Any ideas what it could be? My little mystery chick has been under the wing of the Polish hanging out. So funny! She has not minded so far. Need to get some cute pics of that. My DH really is doting on her. He got up early to check on her this morning

What colors are you Frizzle Ameraucanas?

Yes Sundance, did the vitamins, and I have tried feeding her today..egg yolk. She's still hanging in there.

Lisa..do you need the blue egg layer to be an Ameraucana, or is an EE ok. Want to see the pictures of the blue eggs I have going into lock down tomorrow night? Blue eggs..babies will be either, blue, black, or chipmunk. So, may get some blues. :) I have a blue outside that is getting bigger, she came from a blue/green egg though. Pretty girl, no puffs, still pretty color.
Oh, I got my other Wheaton back today. It is so much smaller than the one I've had. I looked at the one I've had all along, and am really beginning to wonder if it's a boy. Both of them have pretty pink combs, but the coloring of the one I've had is much more colorful. The little one just looks girly. Now watch it be the opposite, just don't know for sure yet. And I was out there this morning talking to the one I've had, saying, yep, you are a girl aren't you. Maybe it is.

Red, yep, you need a fence. Will keep the dogs out, but not the cats. Just saw that black and white cat when we pulled up into the driveway today. It hurried and jumped up onto the fence and jumped down the other side. It watches the young ones, which are safe, I hadn't let the girls out yet today, but I don't think the cat is interested in the big ones, just the little ones. Bless your heart, I hope you can get things figured out so your babies/girls can just enjoy that back yard. And you too! So you can watch from the windows like I do if I don't want to go out. LOL...

Red, I am so, so sorry for you and your BF. :( I wouldn't just put up any fence, though....I'd put up a hot wire! And get a donkey....they will protect their herd family and kill any four-legged trespassers...at least give them a good stomping.

I did say I was a little concerned about your Ameraucana's coloring last time you posted a picture of her....looked a bit darker than when I had seen her in person. Post another picture for us. :)
I hope your showgirl does a 180* and looks bright and perky in the morning. Good luck on your eggs going into lock down!

My 11-yr-old son has decided he wants to raise and show bantams. Vorwerk, Sebright, and Pyncheon are the breeds he is most interested in. I am quite nervous about the idea- we already have 10 LF (I believe the limit for Salt Lake City is 15) and we would need to build a separate coop in our already crowded yard. It has also been a frustrating couple of weeks with the girls we already have (injuries & escapees). Before I can give him a definite yes or no answer I need to do some research on cost (extra coop/run, feed, SQ birds, entrance/association fees, etc.), breeders, care of SQ birds, and who know what else. Anyone out there know where I can get the info I need? I am particularly looking for local, reliable breeders of SQ bantams.

Not sure about how to get the info on showing, but I would go with the sale site here on BYC for getting the SQ bantams. Not sure of anyone that breeds them here in Utah..maybe someone else here knows?

I did the chicken railroad thing today. I was pleased to pick up 6 white checks from ann Moriahsquilts for dalshoorans in idaho. Ann has a beautiful home and a perfect set up for chickens. I had her look at my bullseye chick and she said the picture I posted did not do it justice so I'll try to do better pics tomorrow. It is so fun to meet different people on this list. I also bummed a few eggs for a broody hen I have. so Dalshoorans I have your chicks safe i Taylorsville I am feeling better but still a bit weak

I got to meet Lord Scott and Lady Diana (aka Sundancebare) tonight! What a delightful couple! Fun, spunky, and full of stories - I want to tell her stories to you all, but I guess that's not fair cuz you need to hear them straight from her
big_smile.png
! (Ok - a few snippets - She has trained jumping horses (which I adore), and a chicken to bow, her cats are international award winners, she loves animals with remarkable appearances, her husband is a Lord in Scotland, and she used to ride her horses up the mountain by my house.) She is a true animal lover. You would never know she spent the week in the hospital, she has so much energy.

She's traveling with a gorgeous Sphynx cat. The first time I have ever seen one - it was beautiful. And three adorable little LITTLE yorkies. And three cute chickies - the pic she posted of the bantam with the bullseye spot does not show the markings - its a bullseye on the top of its head. And six chickies from me doing the shuttle. And she may have been hiding something else in there!

They were very fun.

Sundance - I have a neighbor who raises exotic snakes... They are varigated - the colors and patterns change down the length of the snake. I'll have to introduce you
