Cynthia, the cracking pattern on that egg is pretty interesting!

Sphinx, I'm glad the cockerel is doing better.

My Exchequer definitely squatted for me

Now to find out if she's laying or not. She's always out of the fenced area, so I'm going to have to do a thorough search of the whole yard.

I can't remember if I suggested it before, but maybe you should get some poultry netting, Red. That'll keep them in place.

Today I was feeding the cow and watching the chickens. One of them, my younger ameraucana I think, was trying to fly and got at least 6' off the ground. Good thing I had that poultry netting to keep her in. I did NOT have time to get her back in the run today.

Sphinx, the area that I have them in is too big for netting, unfortunately. Otherwise, I would love to have them in a huge enclosed area

At least they aren't getting into the neighbors' yards any more. It's a compromise, for now.

But thank you for suggesting it!

Got the pen fixed enough for the silkies to go inside an area, and what do they do..they all huddle together in the corner..on the outside of the enclosure. So, had to put them inside. Will keep doing that if they don't get the hang of it..hoping just this one night will help them know where to go.

Well, my cuckoo Polish is gone. A gal came and picked "him" up..lol..and he is heading to Richfield area. It's for a man out in that area that has been wanting him from the time I thought for sure it was a boy. I had to tell myself that it just had to be a boy because... while looking at those wattles today, not big, but coming in, and, also his spikes and comb, and wattles are all getting quite red the last couple of days..really, so, it just must be a boy.

Plus, I thought I noticed some feathers coming out along the side where saddle feathers would. I am hoping this guy will put pictures up for me. I would love to see that one all grown up.

I had fun with my Silkies today. Trimmed around their eyes so they can see. They cheered me up. Here is my Cotton. Love this picture of her, and so do other on the Silkie thread...some want her, but she's a keeper.

She's growing up. Will be laying in about a month I would guess.

ara, didn't know if you would get on this early, but thought maybe if you did, and the kids weren't gone yet, that I would let you know that the babies are at the P.O.. We are on our way. I should be able to post some pics. later. :))

She is the most gorgeous silkie I have seen Cynthia, glad you are keeping her....so pretty! Your blue one is so pretty too! Hope they figure out ther new house :)

Oh I bet you are sad without that cuckoo....so hard when they just won't be female for ya....this is what I felt when I sent the Masked Villain (frizzle cuckoo) boy with Sasha! He was soooooo pretty! Dang it!

My buff polish chick got picked on a little again through the bars of the cage last night. The cute one that I like...they just want to eat that one for some reason. She is still ok, but has a scab on her neck AND by her tail now. She is going to have to be isolated for a bit I think until she loses those attractive meaty spots, they think she is dinner! Argh! When I open the door, she comes running, jumps onto me. "save me from these demons!" She spent half the day in the house yesterday on my shoulder. She is just a sweet baby....going to be very low on the pecking order I am afraid.

Baby pics!? I can't wait! :D

I'm sorry your cuckoo Polish had to go. I guess it's a risk we take, having chickens.

Lisa, you should come see me at Petsmart sometime! I know you have kiddos during the week, so....I work this Saturday from 2-9:30pm. :)

I clipped some wings this morning so hopefully we won't have the BSL escaping and laying in the garden. We'll see in an hour or so because that is when she usually lays. I swear we were finding white eggs from the exchequer but there hasn't been one in at least a week. There have been two really soft shelled eggs on the roosting bar in the last few days, I don't know how to deter a chicken from laying up there. All of the others lay in the actual nesting boxes except whoever is laying the soft eggs and the BSL who lays in the garden. If they are on layer feed do they need calcium on the side still?
