Utah!

Hattie, I had a partridge bantam cochin that was eggbound last Feb....posted on here and got quite a bit of help, with the oil, bathing, even (gasp) reaching in there to see if the egg could be felt....it was awful. She really got quite ill, the biggest sign that I could see was the heaving when she was breathing, and very little motion. She quit eating and drinking, and I did lose her eventually ( My DH had to assist to end the pain for her). I know others have been able to help them pass the mass, hang in there, hopefully something will work for you! The soaking in warm water sure did seem to at least relieve the pain for my girl, she really huddled down in the warm water for several hours, maybe the lightness felt good to her. I have read both yes and no to trying to break the egg, I opted not to, it seemed like the shell could damage her insides...it is so hard to know just what to do. I had a couple of weeks to try and help her before she finally got sick enough we knew there was no more we could do, hopefully you will have enough time to work with her and help her out!

Mimi, it's hard to say what the history of that new rooster is without knowing where he came from or that. There's a chance he could be for fighting, yes, but that might not be the case, either. Can you see any kind of spurs on his legs? It makes me wonder how old he is.

Yes he has spurs.... I dont know if there is anythjng specific I should notice about them.

It just means he's probably a rooster and not a cockerel. I was curious about his age, is all.

Chick Place, it sounds like your Silkie may have a little defect. Unless you are planning to use him for breeding, I'd say he's probably fine if he's eating and drinking alright and seems to be happy.

So sorry about your girl, Hattie, from what I've read, it seems to be random when it happens to them, and the results are so-so for getting them out of it. Although I've also read it seems to be more common in hatchery birds bred for high laying rates, like Leghorns and some sex-links, interesting.. SpeckledHen has a whole bunch of threads about it, pretty interesting, actually, she ended up doing necropsies and everything on her birds...

Pictures of my Wellies..and my Lav. Orpington babies. I have two Silver Sussex too, but they are still trying to wake up. They hatched way later today, so weren't in the pictures when I took these.

Chipmunks all over the place! The Welsummers are all sold

Sweet babies

Love the color of these Lav. Orpingtons!

And, I love the sweet faces on them. :)

Oh Cynthia, those babies are so cute!!! Congratulations!

Chickplace, I agree with Red- it's probably some sort of defect, and he probably shouldn't be used for breeding. I don't know that there's much you can do but just watch him.

Hattie, any progress with your girl?

Sundance, next time I'm in town, I'll try to videotape the chicken for you. I think I'll be around on Thursday to pick my dh up from the airport. I'll let you know for sure when it gets closer.

I got him from a hatchery, He only does it when he turns his head left. I am wondering besides a defect. which I know is possible. But could someone at the hatchery had dropped him or hid his head some way. could Trama do this to him. Just wondering Otherwise he is perfectly healthy.

How old is he? Is he getting better or worse or staying the same?

Oh my goodness Lisa! I am so glad you asked me. I was thinking they would go into lock down on Tues.! But they are due to hatch on MON.! I just came back from running and getting those babies into lock down..today is lockdown! If I hadn't come on here, I would have just thought Tues. Wonder if they would have hatched..lol.. probably, because it was done wrong! Well, I have been busy with the last two being so close together, that I just remember that Tues was something I guess. Glad I got them in, late, but they are in lockdown now. So, I guess that means they won't hatch until later that night Mon. We'll see Thank you Lisa! These are my Cinnamon Sussex that I am looking forward to. I really was looking forward to the Wellies too..glad I got some of those. I love them.
I haven't been looking at my calender. I have tried not to lately..that Wed. is creeping up closer and faster. Austin isn't any help, only 4 more days mom!
So here is how I have been lately..smiley and happy for him, but on the other hand..a little on the mixed feeling side..
