Utah!

Hey everyone, It has been awhile...Not much going on around here. Waiting on my FBCM girls to start laying and also the Wheaten Ameraucana....They have been teasing me for weeks....

Here is a pic of the FCBM Rooster, He is a pretty boy.

Cindy-
He is GORGEOUS~~! So funny I was just thinking about writing to you to see if your marans had laid yet :) My only that lays is the hatchery one I got at chickenstock as a day old chick. My oldest FBCM pullet from pawtraitart, same place as yours....looks very ready! I can't wait! And I think my Blue Wheaten Am. from the same h:frowatch as yours will be a few weeks yet. Cynthia and Daloorashens have one too, so it will be fun to see who gets the first egg. I think Hattie's sister has one too :) The ones I have that are a month older just started to lay in the last week-ish.

Aren't you so excited to see those chocolate eggs!! Are your girls getting pretty red in the combs yet? Mine has just reddened up in the last 5 or 6 days. Hope you are doing well! I miss you! You should pop in here more often girl! Hope the monster and the Phoenix are doing good as well. :D

Sundance, you should post pictures of your possible rooster. I don't want him, but I'm curious.

BluJems, that roo is gorgeous. My BCM rooster is a very sweet guy, but I think that's to make up for his rather unfortunate looks.

They have been red for over a month....I did finally get a light out there because everyone has been slowing down on their laying. The older FCBM hen has looked close forever. I am trying to be patient. LOL

Thanks he is a good rooster, definitely not friendly but not mean. He gets out of the pen and runs over with his girls and they spend the day with the pygmy buck....The buck yells at me if I forget to let the chickens out....He likes the company I guess.

Awww great, if yours is keeping you waiting then I am probably a month out at least :p I remember yours was older than mine. Sooooo we play the patience game! Stinkers.

Pretty funny about your goat!

blu ~ I love that roo! Would love to have one that looked like him. Very handsome. Too cute, your goat likes the chicken company?

Ok, I got one of those soft shelled eggs today. Who? It was light in color, but that may not mean anything being the first egg. The ones that are due to lay next are the white EE mix, a Blue EE, or, the Wheaten A. I have a Wellie, but I don't think she is old enough yet..maybe, she is close to 5 months, but she is small. hmmm ? Will be on the watch out. I know that my leghorn and New Hampshire where in there having a treat on that thing. It still had some white and yolk in it when I went in the coop, and they went out. Stinkers. I always worry about that. Never had a problem with the chickens eating those kind at first then eating the normal egg..so, hoping neither will. It fell from a roost spot. So will have to go out early in the morning to watch.

Cynthia, I have found three eggs on the ground in the last three days. One was the Wyandotte egg that Lisa put the picture up of (thank you Lisa!) one was the brown speckled egg, and one was a small, pretty light brown egg, almost cream in color. It may have been from my BO, but the shape isn't right. I had wondered if it was my Leghorn/EE mix. I will be watching to see who gobbles up the calcium I put out for them, and who is doing what in the mornings.

Madchicken, my girls eat the seeds whole. And what they can't eat, the turkeys clean up. It works out pretty well.

So, I feel bad. The wild turkey that I have gave me the slip tonight when I went to put stragglers away. My brother came outside to help me get her. We had her against the fence and pounced one after the other, but the problem was, each of us got a fistful of tail feathers, and no turkey........so now I have a turkey with no tail. She's been growing in a bunch of feathers lately and is looking so much better than when I got her. I was shocked at how easily her tail feathers came loose. So kids, if you have turkeys, do NOT grab them by the tail. All it produces is an embarrassed turkey, and it makes you feel like a jerk

And yes, we did eventually get her. She'll be getting lots of protein treats for the next little while.

wasnt i just at your house today? u live in my neighborhood! so, hi neighbor!

Yup, that was me! That was quite a surprise to have a chicken neighbor walk up out of nowhere like that, but fun to chat

Sounds like you've got quite the flock, yourself. Good stuff.

Thanks for replying everyone. We have had them for about a month and a half so they are used to us. I have ligjts in their coop and have been turning them on at night. Wasn't sure for how long and when but it is on a timer so will have my husband time it like you said for the 2 different times.
Also I have one that they pick on it's so sad to see them do that.

They jump on her and just peck the heck out of her. Then she gets up and shakes it off. Poor thing. And one that has a bum leg. They usually leave her alone but saw one do the same thing with her yesterday. Man didn't know chickens had bullies too.
I think maybe it's just the light thing like you mentioned. So will try doing the timer thing. Does anyone know if garlic, onions and things like that will hurt them? And what not to give them?
I'm not sure what kind of chickens I have. I know one is a brown sex-link. One grey one, and 6 black. Not sure what they are called. I'll try to post a pic of them if I can get them to pose for me.
Thanks again all for answering.

P.S. I know Magna isn't such a bad place LOL . I have a son that lives there and likes it and still have friends out there. It's just when I was a kid (oh wait! I'm still a kid!!) when I'd tell anyone I was from Magna they always said "where's that" so I'd have to explain it's where Kennecott is.

Do have any pictures of the hens the guy sold you? Mine was slowing down so last week i turned the winter light on. Its on a timer to come on at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and again on at 6:00 am to 8:00 am. They was down to five a week but now im back up to 8-12 a week.
Thank you!! We like it here. I don't have pic's yet but will try to get them to pose for me.
The ones (3) my landlady left me are a brown sex-link, a black ?? and a grey?? The rest are black??? I'm real new at this so don't know the breeds yet except the brown one, she (landlady) told me. 8 altogether.I know they are about a year and a half to two years. One has a bad leg and one gets picked on all the time. We call her Heneretta. Poor thing. We might have to try raising some of the younger ones this spring. Guess I'm not much of a farmer. Don't like to get up at the crack of dawn.
Are you in the Lehi area?
