Utah!

Cynthia - I was just looking at my girls and look what I noticed on the little one's head! I thought this might be the first indication that she (

) might be crested! Nothing on the other SFH, but this girl has a definite mohawk look going on. :)

Also, just for fun, this is my son in his Halloween costume. I was going to make it but finally gave in and decided to buy one because I was running out of time, he picked the elephant. :)

How is the fodder coming along? I'm still a little confused on how grow it. Is there a video that shows how? Yes i am a man and i don't like to read instructions.  So there is no dirt right?

Here it was yesterday...just starting to sprout. I am pretty excited about it! A few handfuls of wheat, turned into pounds and pounds of green food in under a week?! I can do this!

Aravis, Love your chick! It will be fun to see how she turns out as an adult, looks like you are definitely going to have a little hat on that one!

Your boy looks so cute ;) !

Aravis, love the elephant costume. Very, very cute. I think that chick does look like it may be crested.

I'll have to go look into this fodder thing a bit more.

Cynthia, that egg is crazy! I have to admit I would've played with it quite a bit, being squishy like that.

So look what I found when I went out to collect eggs yesterday! There was already a good sized light brown egg under her and no brown eggs appeared the rest of the day. So, I'm not sure if she started laying and I didn't realize it, or she was just checking out the boxes. I lean towards me not realizing she's started laying though.

aravis..yes, you have a crested, and so do I now from my second hatch, it is just now starting to show up, but I was thinking boy when I very first saw that little chick! :( Same color too!

Cute Halloween costume.

Lisa, I was looking up all sorts of sites on fodder. I want to do this..how are you doing it..inside..outside?

Sphinx, she is very pretty..SS right? My girl laid a pretty light pinkish colored egg. Very small at first, then started to be around a med. sized egg.

Ok, have to say, when I said, "that" little chick, I meant mine..lol...

I am not sure what my poor DH is going to think when I tell him about chicken fodder...or goats (he keeps saying no to that one). Now that the older chickens have started to lay he has warmed up to them a bit more. I'm not sure how far I can push him on this though.

Well, just finished reading on how many states were affected by the storm Sandy. The Power Outages! God Bless the 21 states that have been majorly affected. 17 deaths so far, but with all of that water, all of the power outage...and the count not completely done, there will be more. Tears came to my eyes as I read the report of each state. It's so sad. It's such a huge area of our country. I am sure that our country will kick in all around and into the western area to help these states. Prayers for sure.

Sphinx love that color. She is bee-oootiful!

Cynthia, the fodder, grows inside. It is really fun to watch! Here is the link again if anybody missed it. It is much easier than I thought. A morning rinse, and I mist mine during the day to keep it moist. Kind of fun to grow stuff when the outdoor growing season has ended.

So, you just soak the wheat a day in a bucket. Then spread it in the tray (see the link for the tray set up) and set by the window, or near some light...then rinse in the mornings, mist it if it needs to be moistened, and voila! A week later it is tall wheat grass to feed your girls. This is my first time.

Here is the link Michelle posted originally. Lots of people on there do it, I had never heard of it before! Fun idea.

My heart is with you on this. So so awful what people are going through, and going to still go through to get past this mess!

Yep, I'm kind of worried about BYC'ers who are back east. I was watching the news last night about how bad the flooding and wind damage has already been. It's so scary that so many people are stranded in flood zones without power. I honestly wish I could trek over there to help, since mailing supplies is obviously out.

Ara, your little boy is very cute in that costume. And your SFH sure looks cute with that little crest!

I think it may be about time to move the two white turkeys out to Tooele

They've slowly been getting more aggressive toward the chickens, and this morning they were displaying left and right and picking on the other birds - even the BR's they were raised with. So, it's time to move them. I know Sundance had a problem with the two little jakes killing some of her birds, and I don't want to have that happen here.
