Mimi so sad Glad you found a place for them. When I hatch in the February, I will gladly give you another one to see if we can get it right! I am going to hatch Tolbunts then get some mottled houdan chicks already hatched, if you like those I think the Houdans are sexed. Also IFA had tons of Polish in March last year, about the 10th I think. They say they about 2/3 are female but I did not have that kind of luck. Did you find any Seramas?

This is a video of the baby mottled houdans. I cannot wait :0 They are pretty cute. They do have female sexed chicks, so I am going to buy a batch to come mid March. Anybody else want any I can make sure I get enough! Depending on how many I order they are just under $4.

oohhhh boy I just went ahead an put my order in....to come march 4.....talk about impulsive, eh?

I ordered 10 houdans, 3 wcb polish, 8 'snowballs' white polish, 2 red stars, 2 BR, 5 NN.

I am keeping one of each, (6 total yeah right wish me luck with that) and they are all sexed as females. Plus you get the surprise chick which is inevitably a boy.....plus the incorrect guesses...so there will be some extra babies if anybody is interested...will post again when they come.

for those with old wheat why not just feed it to your chickens? they will still eat it and wheat can be kept for just about forever. it will still be good for them

Cynthia! Guess what....my showgirl's comb is maroon (under that gray!) and she is squatting! yay yay yay! I can't wait to see how she does. She is so little, and cute, I wonder what kind of eggs she will lay

I have to say, my White Cr Blue Polish "Frisco" that started laying, lays the nicest eggs. I am so so pleasantly surprised. They are bigger than a lot of my other LF, and she lays 6/week so far, 7 days one time. For an ornamental, I am just thrilled! Her eggs are L size already, 53 grams today....awesome. I put the last 3 in with my 'selling' eggs due to the size, they are bigger than my black sex links!.
My second one, the "Elvis" Golden laced one, has not started still. But she has been making nesting attempts, so hopefully soon. She is 8 months old. It will be interesting to see if I have the same luck with her. I hope they all lay good like that, I will keep more in my flock for sure because we have so much fun with them.

Sphinx, I wouldn't worry too much right now. I have seen the occasional blood streaking on a fully mature hen's egg. Sometimes it just happens. it it continues to happen, though, you may want to keep a close eye on her incase of prolapse or something. Worst case scenario there.

Today has been an awesome day for me. I really was able to get a lot done. I went to the IFA in Riverton and got a bag each of wheat and oats. Thanks again for the tip, Brad! After that, I stopped at a pumpkin patch and asked the owners if I could take some of the split pumpkins for my chickens. They told me to take whatever I wanted, so I loaded up the back of my little truck and hauled a bunch of pumpkins home

I am so excited to have so much feed stocked up for the birdies. I took the plastic garbage can that I was keeping some of the feed in and cleaned it out, since it had gotten water in there and mold was starting to grow. Found a hole in the bottom and patched it with duct tape, then dumped the new grains and all of the remaining feed in and stirred it up. No more mouse problems, no siree

I'm so excited to finally have that done. The two white turkeys had to supervise while I was working on all of that - never mind that they couldn't see me or what I was doing in the dark, hehe. Funny girls. They kept making curious little cheeps and wandering around underfoot, then trying to stick their heads in the bags to see what in the world was so important.

you didnt have to go all the way to riverton! haha! there's one closer to redwood road! thats the one my family goes to.

I was wondering if it was still good for the chickens to eat. I always thought, that if it didn't sprout, then it wasn't healthy any longer. Am I wrong? Because I would love to use it during the winter. I could mix it up with my corn scratch for sure!

Lisa, you ordered babies already. I know for some, you have to get your orders in pretty early all right. I will have to look those Houdans up. I think I know what they look like..if I am thinking about the right chicken, they are cute all right.
And, I will guess, that your Showgirls egg, will be>>>>>>>>>>>>>very small....at first.

It sure is fun to go out now and find two little Silkie eggs in the nest box. They always lay in the same nest box. I am guessing when Cotton lays, which has only been twice now, she gets in with Princess. I've seen her in there with her before.

Just watch a falcon try to get of my Silkies! Luckly they was under a Large crab apple bush and the falcon couldnt move very fast on his feet. Falcons are migratory birds aint they? Think i will lock up the bantams in their small run for a few weeks. I hope it wont go after a large hen. Most my hens are dual purpose so they are much larger then the falcon.
