Vacation and chickens

No where I would swap houses and take care of your animals and you do mine.

I go no where, to auctions, friends, out to movies but always home by dark. Maybe I'm an anti-Vampire

Sounds like here, only no movies. LOL

We don't always make it home by dark, but I have 5 dogs that patrol. One other one lives with with the chickens so I don't have to lock that pen up at night at all. The other pens are enclosed.

We always move the sheep & goats into the yard before we go anywhere that we won't be home by dark, so the free-ranging chickens roost in the yard to be protected by the dogs.

Not real movies Ratatuie was the last one, its a kid movie, try to take the kids every once in a while. Dont remember last real movie I've seen, thats preatty bad usually wait till on video, $1 a night and usually so far behind movie I want is almost always available

we're struggling with this right now ourselves. we're getting ready to go to my best friends house for 3 days (leaving Thursday night and coming back Sunday). We're taking our dogs, leaving the cat with enough food and water (though he'll disagree) but don't have someone to let the chickens in/out of the crate. Coop is not quite done - if it was it is big enough for 4 chickens for a couple of days and our neighbor who watched them the last time is busy this weekend. My DH is going to ask another neighbor.

My sister comes and takes care of my animals the one week out of the year that I go anywhere.....It's a trade, I watch her 5 kids and she takes care of my critters!!

Our only big vacation has traditionally been a week in western PA every August, and I have no idea what we're going to do, since our usual baby (and house) sitter will likely also be going to the same event.. *scowl*

On the upside, the chickens might be my excuse to not go to the in-laws for thanksgiving this year (don't get me wrong, spending turkey day at home alone by myself doesn't sound like fun, and I actually do like my in-laws but.. I'm already feeling overwhelmed by family (new house visits) and we have two more visits to look forward to before thanksgiving, so... A part of me would rather be home alone than go deal with more family)..

I'm considering getting chickens, and the vacation issue was something I was wondering about. Can chickens be kept in a coop a day or two (say, ten chickens in a 4x8 coop), provided they have food, water and ventilation?

My husband and I don't get to take to many vacations at all. IF we do get to take a vacation we try to take the dogs with us, cats have self feeder and water, but the chickens well thankfully my landlord live right down the road and can look after them IF we ever do get to take that vacation. We are working on going over a weekend in May to see Hubbys family. NOt sure if we are going to get to go might have Three kids at that time along with all the animals.
