VACATION????? HELP!!!

weasles are smaller than most minks I have seen. We used to have a mink farm not far up the road where I grew up. TONS of them got loose and an now running loose in the woods around cumberland county.

They are a bit bigger than ferrets

If you install an auto water system and get some big galvanized feeders that hold 25 lbs of feed, and your run is secure and covered with wire or net, then you could just have someone stop by every few days to look and see that the waterer is working and the feeder not empty.

I consider my pen predator proof. Have netting over the top to keep the hawks and owls out, and a secure fence. So, I leave the small "chicken door" open all the time, so the chickens can come out early in the morning, without my having to let them out. I have large feeders, and fill them, and I have made waterers out of 5 gallon buckets set in metal "hog pans", and we just got back from an 8 day vacation. A young neighbor came every day just to make sure nothing was wrong, but the feed and water held for the 8 days. It would have been fine if he had just come every 2 or 3 days, but I wanted him to gather the eggs daily, so they didn't start breaking and eating them.

You said your vacation is in August? Well, then you have plenty of time to make a friend and meet neighbors! My neighbor feeds and waters and collects eggs and I watch their dog.

I'm sure by then you'll find somebody to do it for you :) Have fun, I heard the Cape is beautiful.

I'm new to all this too as a result of my mom's death I inherited about 20 free ranging chickens. I live over in Jackson, NJ, not too far from you. Privately email me, and we might be able to work something out, [email protected]. I am a school teacher and will be off then. And depending on when in August, I may be able to help you out.

Great to see board members helping each other out. Thats the kind of spirt that BYC is all about and what the orginator wanted. A large board of people country , city, doesnt matter , all learning and sharing about our back yard friends as a group. Good job!.

To find a pet sitter in your area try petsit.com
You can type in your zip code and they will show you some pet sitters in your area. Added bonus of a pet sitter is bringing in mail, checking on house, water plants, reliable, experienced and responsible.
I am a pet sitter and just love when I get chicken clients...always end up staying longer than I am paid for. Good luck!

Call the extension agent and find if you have a local 4H club. The adults can recommend a child that has demonstrated leadership, responsibility and chicken knowledge. The kid has a mentor to turn to that is interested in the success of this project.

This was recommended to me and I thought that this is another solution that we should all know about.
