Vaccinating your chicks

Is it a disease that the flock was born with and can pass on? And does that mean that there eggs are still edible/healthy enough to eat?

Not necessarily born with, unless the chicks hatched from eggs that were infected and the chicks caught it that way. There's a lot of ways it can get brought in, but bringing in new chickens without quarantining them to make sure they're healthy is the most common way it gets in. But wild birds can introduce it too.
