Well, there's no such thing as THE ideal gift, what pleases one lady may irritate & annoy another. I think the important thing is to pay attention to your loved ones throughout the year, listen to what they say, notice their preferences & their needs, and then plan accordingly.
I'm an awfully practical & frugal person, I don't like cards, cut flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, overpriced boxes of candy. I don't even like all this commercial push for VD, it's almost as bad as for Christmas. I'd rather not have money spent on VD stuff just to benefit those commercial operations. I'd rather have consideration & attention throughout the year. If I need a particular tool or piece of equipment I can get it myself, and probably at a better price than one bought in haste right before VD.
The ideal VD gift for
me would be a hand-written love letter, a favorite tree or bush planted for me, my favorite foods packed in a picnic basket and brought to enjoy in a pleasant setting, even completing some unpleasant chore I have been avoiding. That's what I would
like, but I'm not holding my breath expecting it.
But don't try this if your lady has different tastes than mine!
For many years now my boys & I have been making Valentine cards and taking them to our local VA hospital. Most of them collect cards from the community and give them to their patients on VD. They'll put them on their meal trays, even decorate the wards with them if they have enough. And I make sure they send cards & pictures to their Grandma. I want them to think of VD as a day to show love & appreciation
to others.
