Valentine Day presents- What to avoid

I'm not allowed to bring home any more living things. So, I guess I need to go shopping!

There is the problem........ I don't have a TV to tell me that I wouldn't want 1,2 or 3. I personally would take all three. If you mean overalls to clean out the coop as exercise clothing, I'm down. Cd's to listen to while I clean the said coop. Of course the cleaning supplies are obvious. The gun.......... Yeah, I'll take that too. Or crossbow.

Simple things.

My DH just bought a bunch of super-candle led flash lights from someone on CL. Then he handed one to me (sans batteries) for V-day, saying it was for candling my eggs!

Just for that, I walked over to his pistol, took of the fancy-dance sight light, and used it to candle my eggs.

Well, there's no such thing as THE ideal gift, what pleases one lady may irritate & annoy another. I think the important thing is to pay attention to your loved ones throughout the year, listen to what they say, notice their preferences & their needs, and then plan accordingly.

I'm an awfully practical & frugal person, I don't like cards, cut flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, overpriced boxes of candy. I don't even like all this commercial push for VD, it's almost as bad as for Christmas. I'd rather not have money spent on VD stuff just to benefit those commercial operations. I'd rather have consideration & attention throughout the year. If I need a particular tool or piece of equipment I can get it myself, and probably at a better price than one bought in haste right before VD.

The ideal VD gift for me would be a hand-written love letter, a favorite tree or bush planted for me, my favorite foods packed in a picnic basket and brought to enjoy in a pleasant setting, even completing some unpleasant chore I have been avoiding. That's what I would like, but I'm not holding my breath expecting it.

But don't try this if your lady has different tastes than mine!

For many years now my boys & I have been making Valentine cards and taking them to our local VA hospital. Most of them collect cards from the community and give them to their patients on VD. They'll put them on their meal trays, even decorate the wards with them if they have enough. And I make sure they send cards & pictures to their Grandma. I want them to think of VD as a day to show love & appreciation to others.

I wouldnt listen to the TV, go with what you KNOW she is interested or use your imagination for something totally romantic.

My DH never gets me anything for Valentines Day. I'm lucky if he remembers my birthday (and it's the same day as his).
He's just not a gifty type guy, and I'm not the type to make a big fuss about it.

Do you share a computer.....If so make this the post the background or screen saver for it.......

Better yet print this and cut it into valentine shape and pin it on his pillow or wrap it up into a roll of paper on the handle of his toothbrush...... (add the note that a prepaid credit card is also acceptable, in the event he doesn't know exactly what to get)

My ideal Valentine's Day gift: (pick one)

- Build me a bigger coop
- Insulate the garage
- Paint the basement
- Paint the house
- Shovel the coop/run roofs off (again)

What I'll really get:

- A glass of wine and control of the TV remote for the day.

I'm happy with that

Not your color?

OK, I guess I'll keep that, here's a box of candy.
