It has been damp and warmer here and melting snow. I am hatching chicks on Fri. mine might get here early because they are bantam. I have EE/ and frizzle bantams coming. I had a test chick hatch a couple days ago but she got smooth feathers w/o NN

I candled today and I just can't see enough to chance tossing any. I don't have any stinkers so I will just wait it out and see what I get.

I have a DeWalt 18v worklight I use to candle those with... works pretty good!

I bought a super high LED flashlight, but it isn't worth much with the Marans eggs.

With the Leghorn eggs I can see everything.

I tried the rolling the eggs thing... And I know I have noticed that happening before when hand turning......

But, this time, since I wanted to know which had developing chicks, I kept second guessing myself, and it didn't help at all.

I guess I will just have wait until hatch. -sigh-

I have heard that before about bantams. How early do they usually hatch? I have a few in this batch. When should I expect them?

Marans eggs SUCK

I use a $16 Magicfly Bright Cool LED Light from Amazon. Works pretty good on Marans eggs.

And there's always the smell test.

Candled today (day 14) Had to remove 2 early quitters!!!! All others are doing great!
