The biggest problem we are having is we are going to have a bunch of half earred goats.....they keep getting frostbite. The one last night we did chores...mom was in labor but nothing hanging out no obvious but contractions. We left and came back 2hrs later to a dry kid with the last 1/2 inch of his ears already frozen and his nose red. Dont really know what to do to get them before frostbite.I have goat kids that should be born in April. I was thinking of having them born earlier the next time i do kidding but maybe not. Chicks in the basement are enough for me.
This summer we have plans to build a totally enclosed "warm" barn, with kid heat huts, so that it should always stay above freezing just from the goats body heat. I'm hoping to get chicken coops and rabbit pens built onto the ends but OH might have different plans. Personally i figure if i can put all the animals in one "space" they will help heat each other. So far the chickens in their trailer coop keep it warmer in there then outside and it is not really draft free by any means.
