Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

Ok. I think I will stick to using small zip ties and small colored plastic beads. I have been using this system for 3 years. Once the bird is full grown, there is no need to change out zip ties and they are easy to see when walking around. I use different bead colors for different birth years and breeding so, I know who's who.
Alot of people practice toe punching simply because it is permanent..no need to worry about bands being lost etc....it does have it limits though, there are only so many different punches you can do so depending on how many breeds you have you could run out of punch patterns. Alot of people punch birds that will be penned together...differently...problem is if you have multiple pens and they get out of the pens and another pen has the same punch pattern and the same looking bird, there is no way to tell them apart.

i personally use zipties but i have been thinking about switching to loom bands for the juvies.

How old were they when you marked them?
No idea....not my chickens. They are internet sourced. i dont punch my chickens...i prefer zipties. Its much easier for me to remember SM are teal and BCM are green then it is to remember SM have their right web on their right foot punched and BCM have their left web on their left foot punched

When I worm my birds the zip ties are inspected for fit and when I move chicks to next brooder or pen I replace their zip tie so, I have only had one loose a tie.

i more often hear of people's birds losing legbands then zipties. i have heard of a hand full of birds who have lost zipties by getting them caught but generally they stay on the entire birds life once they are full grown.

i tried to take pictures of my pips but the glass door on the hatcher wont let me....maybe when the light comes on again.

Next batch of eggs set 10 BCM, 20 F1 and F2 OEs, 10 Porcelain D'uccle, 2 Mille Fleur Duccles, 4 Black Mottled Duccles, and 2 frizzle Cochins and thatsone bator full up. The other is waiting for more eggs but has 10 or 12 in it atm...that is Trexroo's bator.

Whoops, apparently I set some porcelain d'uccle eggs.

Hey, but I got a chick finally!

Gah 21 days until i hopefully get some porcelain chicks!! i dont have high hopes...those eggs arrived pretty dirty and two had freeze cracks so the entire lot might be tossed, by the looks of things the freeze cracks happened before collection though so maybe.

Loving all the pics! Unfortunately my hatch has been a failure this time. 0 pips and 0 chicks. I thought something was wrong when I didn't see movement on the last candle. I already have the next batch of eggs in the incubator, Welsh Harlaquin ducks.

Ok I see people have their ways and obviously it's perfect and there's no 2 ways to do anything sorry for trying to help I'll let the experts handle it.

All the comments are appreciated.

Found a video on YouTube from Cackle Hatchery, apparently 2 days after punching the web you have to remove the scab to prevent the hole from growing over.
