Valentine's Day Hatch!!!

I have it on my end table in my living room.

I just changed the location of the sensor lower. This one is a wired sensor, Acurate brand $12 from wal-mart. The temp drops to like 98 until the heater comes on then it hits 99.9. Right now I it states the humidity at 37%.

But the humidity is concerning me. Do i add water?

If you are on day 1-18 - From what I've been told, that is normal humidity. Mine is around 36% and I panicked at first (because a couple websites told me higher) but people tell me it is fine, so I'm keeping it where it is for now and seeing how things roll.

Ya see .... humidity is a controversial subject! It really depends on your location, and elevation.

I incubate at 30 - 35% (never above 35%) and hatch at 60 - 65%. That being said, listen to this ...

A couple days ago, as I was moving eggs out of the incubator and into the hatcher, I realized I had forgotten a couple eggs I had thrown in (32% humidity), and there ... in the incubator, still in the turner, was a silkie egg with a pip! I put it in the hatcher, and it hatched within the hour! Nice, clean hatch, too!

In the, "dry hatch," method, you can allow your humidity to drop to 25% before adding water, to raise it to 35% (? I think 35?), during incubation. the theory is, that too much humidity drowns the chick ... If you ever have a chick that pips, and then dies ... if you see alot of fluid, that is often what it is.

Yes, like I said, humidity is very controversial, and really depends on your area and elevation. Sounds like you have yours worked out!

ahh i see now, i thought that's what you meant. lol, i like to "think" I have mine worked out. This is my first hatch in my new Genesis so i am kinda a bit iffy on how things will turn out. The "re-drowing" as you were explaining was VERY scary might i add. It makes total since to me, but at the same time i have hatching experience to prove that theory wrong. But since im in my new bator, i have NO clue what is going to happen...and of coarse these are my most expensive egg's i have bought...EVER!

But that's the entire i reason i bought a 1588, to trust it to these exact egg's. There was something about putting 160 dollars worth of hatching egg's in a bator that only cost me 42 bucks that didn't set right with me

So i hope i was thinking the right way.

Day 19

Moved 6 light Brahma/Barred Rocks & 2 Pure Light Brahma to the hatcher this morning. Hatch date Feb 3rd. Due to the last hatch Failing badly, upped Humidity to 70-74% Temp 101. Hatcher is still air (may have to get a fan for it).


still have 7 mystery eggs in the incubator (hatch Date Feb 16th). Humidity increased to 45-55% and Temp to steady 99-100F.



If this doesnt work I have no clue what to try next.

So far, of my 7 eggs, only 1 was infertile and the other 6 are developing. My husband said 'I thought we agreed you weren't going to hatch any more eggs till spring? I told him this wasn't planned, I just figured I didn't have anything to lose by putting them in the bator, since I thought they were bad eggs. He didn't go for it......Hopefully I won't lose his good graces.

I don't have that problem. My boyfriend said to me. We need to hatch out 6 dozen of our own eggs plus the three dozen I want to purchase! He LOVES excess! We just drove to Martinsville (about a 2 1/2 hr drive) to purchase another chicken coop to house the cornishes, not x's, for meat birds. It needs some nesting boxes and other minor touches but other than that it's good to go.
