Valentine's Day Hatch!!!

Quote:
congrat's on the upcoming babies, but this is the Valentines hatch thread. I believe there is just a regular February thread where people are hatching right now in so i bet you would get more help there, just trying to point ya in the right direction. Tonight at 10:30 will be my start of day 10, i will have an official report for all of you on what is looking good and what is sadly not going anywhere. Very excited!

well on day 10, out of 12 split light sussex egg's sent to me, 10 are looking good and 1 is a possible blood ring. Also, 6 of my 7 home grown millie egg's are going strong too with TON'S of movement. This is my first time with sussex egg's and i didn't know they would be this much harder to candle than my regular bantam egg's im use to hatching. I would say about 5 or 6 of them i could see very slight movement in...but the other 4 or so were just too dark inside. The egg's themselves are not dark by any means at all, just the insides are too dark for me to tell. So i just marked them down as "growing". I could feel the slight weight gain inside them and that helped me to believe they were growing along with the ones that i saw movement in. Maybe sussex egg's have thicker shell's, i dunno, but for now it looks like i'm sittin pretty.

Well, I candled again tonight just because I was worried about one, and I'm glad I did because the ominous black spot was larger, the air cell was bigger, and the veining was gone. Whew! Threw that one outside. So now of the 7 'I doubt they're any good but what the heck' eggs, I have 5 left that are developing and going strong bobbing around in there 'Whee!' Porcelain d'uccles are so cute! Crossing my fingers!

Ok so I'm not crazy that I think some of my eggs have gotten heavier? I thought I was imagining things. Well that's good to hear since my candling skills lack something to be desired.

I can't tell what's going on for sure until day 13 but maybe that's because this is my 1st go round... well 2nd if you count my broody.

unfortunately my 2 broodies have eggs that are hatching right now and some next weekend. the bator has the V-day eggs in it.

i just candled them last night and so far 3 had detached air cells (i know, i should have candled when i put them in but didn't) 1 was a dud, and it looks like 3 more are questionable. so it looks like 10 V-day eggs are doing good so far!

I candled my V-day eggs last night. 2 were totally clear and I couldn't see in the olive eggs at all. Not even an air cell. All the dark maran eggs had a good air cell and some kind of something growing in them - I hope its a chicken

So I have 12 eggs due on the 14/15. 7 BCM and wheaton marans, 2 olive eggers, and 3 EE eggs.

I need the EE eggs to hatch so I can have more olive eggers! That EE of mine is a liberated woman and the rooster doesn't catch her often.
