I hope I'm hatching on the 14th, but this time of year, holding humidity in the incubator is tough.

I have hot air heating in my 200 year old house and things are dry, dry, dry!

BUT, for the next batch of eggs, I have a plan.

I have an unfinished bedroom upstairs with no heat ducts. Therefore, the hot air heat doesn't dry that room out. And I can place some bowls of water in the room too, helping to keep the incubator humidity steadier. The incubator will be in charge of the heat level - I'll watch the humidity.

Funny though...last hatch season from May on was very humid and lots of folks here told me that they had poor hatches from their incubators.

It's a battle....but maybe the broody hens know something we don't??? lol

I started with 11 mutts and added 3 EEs on day 3. I'm down to 7 mutts and the 3 EEs. I candled and had one that wasn't fertile and 3 quitters. My mutts are dancing, but I'm having a terrible time seeing anything in my EE. I can see the air sac, but nothing else. I'm hoping all is well with them. I'm so excited! I'm ready to set another batch. Hopefully we will have a decent hatch on the 11th.

I'm getting two dozen olive eggs in a couple weeks. After this hatch....Valentine's Names huh?
How about:

Lovey
Cupid
Amore
Amora
Valentina
Romeo

Candled tonight, looks like I have two more quitters, one Dutch and one Serama. That brings me to 21. My first batch of quail are due on Saturday, I can't wait! I figure I will candle my second batch of quail pretty soon here, my Quail-braham Lincolns. (Still think that is hilarious!)

No more stinky eggs

Oh, and I bought a new incubator this weekend. Have eggs on the way... serama, old english, langshan, mille fleur, silkies, jersey giants, and jersey giant mixes. quite a variety, but that is a different thread.
