Please read the policy about their sexing guarentee before you order.

I ordered 20 welsummer pullets and received 6 cockerels. They only refunded the difference in price between the pullets and cockerels. There policy does state that they refund the difference. So I only got a 7.20 refund. They did not explain that on the phone when I ordered (lesson learned), The birds look to be of good quality still 75% accuracy with that policy does not seem like a good deal to me.

Welsummer Cockerels are priced at $4.10 each.

This is the first time I asked for a refund for roosters... Of course I'd get the occasional roo in my orders but that's to be expected. 6 out of 20 was only 75% which is way I asked. I did ask for replacement pullets but they declined. I checked with Mypetchicken, Crackle, and Meyers hatchery and all three offered replacements or a full refund if they made a mistake sexing their birds.

Lesson learned... I like to support smaller hatcheries but I guess the larger ones offer better guarentee on sexing :-(

Meyer will refund to a point. For errors exceeding their guarantee they will only refund the difference in price. So in your case you would have been refunded for 2 of the cockerels, but not the other 4.

I do agree 75% accuracy is bad, with a breed that I think in some cases you can sex by the head stripes.

I'm late, but I saw on their website they don't cull male chicks, which is kind of nice. Though I do imagine they must have grief placing that many cockerels.

I know I am late to this thread, but I had a great experience with Valley Hatchery. I ordered three buff Orpington pullets, but when they arrived, the post office could not reach me---- so they contacted Valley Hatchery, and the owner called me on my cell to tell me the post office was trying to reach me.

I was very grateful to the P.O., but also to Valley Hatchery for going the extra mile to find me. And the chicks are gorgeous, with super sweet personalities. So, I am giving this hatchery a big thumbs up.
