I was thinking the same thing! I have it up in my bedroom and I was thinking without the a/c on, I wouldn't need to plug it in!

I just picked up an order of 12 buff orp chicks from the hatchery on Monday. Am keeping them in the garage because it's more consistent out there. Except they got up to 100 today so I panicked but they seem ok.

I am hoping for a break in this crazy heat- just back to normal.

I told my husband that we needed central air so my eggs can have stable temperatures....but he wasnt buying that excuse. (no, really!)....

I have been so hot that I cant even stand it. Then, once I get the temps in the bator to read right...at night when the temps drop, my incubator isnt warm enough.....

I think yesterday (when I stupidly turned off the a/c without watching the news) was our only break. Supposed to be in the upper 80's-low 90's for at least the next 5 days. In JUNE??? But my tomato plants look AWESOME.

I think you should tell your hubby that a/c is a necessity. Yeah - good luck with that. My DBF doesn't believe in that either.

Imagine that!!! My Husband is the Propane delivery man but went to school for HVAC so he thinks he's the guru about anything thermostat! I have to find the quote in one of my "How to" book on Chickens to prove it to him. It said the bator "should" be in a room between 65 and 75... It was more humid in our house yesterday (I think he did turn off that ac) than in my bator! I did steal his Oregon Scientific temp and humidity gauges from outside and popped them in the bators! Oh and my tomato plants are doing AWESOME too! I love to see buds! Every time I go out the garden I yearn for a tomato sandwich!

I set up my second bator for the hatch. It's a Hovabator and i used to hatch my bearded dragons in them (they don't require a whole lot not even turning) it's a little lower than the other one for after they hatch so now I'm worried they'll hit their heads on the heating element. Although I forget how small a chick is!

I candled my silkie eggs last night and they are doing ok (all 3 of them) but they are my floating air sac eggs so I don't know how they are going to make out

So right now... I'm on day 17 for my "designer eggs" and day 13 for my silkies. I also have some Ebay eggs I forget what they are (brain fart) but they are on day 5 with some with veins and some with floating air sacs...

What I found in my Little Giant still air is- if you use the egg carton hatch method, some of the buggers will stand on it after they hatch and bump their head on the heating element. That stressed me out very much- and I ended up opening the incubator before I should have. I did it quickly, but I had to turn the carton to the middle of the incubator away from the element.

Good luck with your hatches..

Who did you win from???? I think we may have gotten eggs from the same seller! I have Ameraucana and Welsummers from a seller on ebay! She shipped them wonderful but they have a lot of floating sacs. The WS are really DARK! I can't see through them!

I got more eggs today. Chicken people are wonderful. I told the sellers about what happened to my Chippy- from the blue egg.
The first seller sent me seven blue eggs and one brown one. The second seller sent me ten blue eggs and four brown ones.

These eggs are a day apart- I am going to treat them as though they have the same hatch day. I have more eggs coming probably tomorrow. Those are silkies and Hudan-Polish crosses. Those ones will be three days from my first eggs- and will have to stay in the turner longer.
