Vamp's hatching crew! who cares what day u r on!Hatch with us!

Great... I was all worried because what I read is they need to be in there for 24hours! The bator I have them in now is low and I don't want them bumping into the heating element...

OMG I candled last night, and for the first time ever I saw the little chicks!!! THey were swimming like crazy...I think they were saying LOOK AT ME MOMMY!!! lol Now I want to candle every day!!!! On a sad note, I the whole reason for the order was for modern game eggs, and only 2 of the 8 are good....Guess I'll have to try again!! I also have turken eggs (cant see in them though) buttercup, la fleche, quail, ducks(forget what kind) pheasant, 1 guinea, 1 golden campine, and a lot of mutt eggs. The mutts arent looking too good though..

I have 10 chicks from under my broodie, and she still has 5 eggs left to go. I'm on day 9 with the Dutch Bantams....only maybe 10 of 34 are any good. DRAT!!! I'm on day 3 with blue/black/splash Orps. I got an order in yesterday of 9 blue/black/splash Orp chicks, and 3 blue/black/lavender WC Polish chicks...they are so cute!!!!

My problem is the heat. And then its even hotter in the nest with a huge Orp sitting on the eggs. I've saved a couple of chicks from dying just from the heat, but have lost 4. I'd bring them in and put them in the bator but it's full! I'm just trying to keep a close eye on her and grab the egg once it pips.

Today is day 10 for the eggs under my broody. I candled again today and culled two eggs with no development. I was terrified to crack them, but the kids encourage me (I know!) since there were absolutely no veins at all. Sure enough, there was absolutely no development, just yolk. Phew! Now I'm down to six good eggs and one dud under her that I was afraid to cull, butI marked it. I also didn't want the difference in number of eggs (from 9 to 6) to spook her.

The eggs that were growing though...wow! We saw lots of movement from them, lots of kicking and trailing stringy things. I just wonder what they're gonna be...I ordered a bantam assortment.

The post above has me worried about what to do when they start to hatch...will I need to bring the crate inside or just go with the flow depending on the heat that day?
