Vamp's hatching crew! who cares what day u r on!Hatch with us!

My FIRST PIP!!! First time hatching, have 10 Bantam D'Uccle's that I thought would begin pipping yesterday if all went well. I have to admit I kept opening the 'bator but the house is very humid from very large aquariums and so many tomato and basil plants, too.

I found one of my CornishX chicks is going thru Failure To Thrive so I brought it in the house again and I think its peeping is calling the banties out of their shells:) Am feeding sugar water and starter to the little CornishX but it doesn't look like it'll thrive. I'll give it time but if it does pull thru, it'll be a miniature cornishX.

Went to see the parents of my bantam eggs yesterday, very beautiful birds! I made the mistake of not taking a camera and the cell phone camera pic turned out very fuzzy so I deleted it;( The sooon to be chicks father is Sir Peter and he crowed once for me...it sounded "miniature" LOL. He's red w/colors and his wife is a silver lace so does that mean I've got mutts coming into the world???

How long does it take for them to start doing more after they pip the outer shell? I have the same one from 6:30 this morning and it's not doing anything. I can shine a flashlight through the bator and see it breathing but is it normal to go so long???

I'm not so confident about my hatch. Day 21 is today (or yesterday depending on when you start counting day 1) and this morning there were still no signs of pipping and there was a smell in the nest. Not sure if it's hen smell or rotten egg smell, but I'm thinking it might be rotten egg smell. This is the first day I've smelled it.

I'm not sure what to think or do, Sunday one egg had a "wrinkle" where the first bantie is pecking to try to break thru, I think its the pip when they can get fresh air? Anyway, nothing since, and the second one is the same...its 3:30am now...so its been all day and half the night...am waiting till morning and will check for anyone's thoughts or I'll either help zip or go to work for a bit and then come back to help...??!!? Getting adult broody banties w/roo for free w/a few Polish but don't want to lose my lil peepers before they've had a chance! What to do...???

As for ME - NOTHING YET!

But they are all still alive. I dunno - this is the start of day 26 so I'm thinking I should see something for sure by tonight. All 4 of them are kicking and twitching away in there (Yes I opened the hatcher and checked! But to be fair my humidity has never been a problem - it's at 80% right now)

Ducks take WAAAAAAAAAAY too long.

I'm on day 8 today and have candled a few of my eggs. Most of what I've candled so far are developing! One of my Jersey Giants and Partridge Rocks have air cells that are wiggling. Is this a normal thing or a bad thing?
