Great name suggestions! This puppy is great. I was watching him this morning from the window after letting him out of the pen. The guineas keep getting closer and closer to him each day. He wants them to come to him but he doesn't try to chase them. I think he is a natural.
What a cutie! I like the name 'pickles'. Something with 2 sylables is easiest for the dog.
You might consider letting him spend some time in the vacinity of the chickens every day so that they can see him and learn that he's part of your 'flock'. IMO, the next 6 wks of his life is all about love and play and bonding. When he is 3 months old, his brain is quite developed- enough to start training. We used to train our own black labs for hunting and they were voice and whistle trained to sit, stay, come and retrieve when they were 4 months old. You'll thank yourselves if you start at 3 months, ,it doesn't take long. When he is grown, his very presence will ward off lots of predator threats. But for now, just love him...lots....
Your puppy pictures are great!! Makes me want another pyr pup NOW.
My full pyr is just about to be 7 months, my oldest (a pyr mix) is just over a year and my youngest (another pyr mix) is 4 1/2 months old. Obviously I don't need another pup now.
As far as a name.......now I usually take 2 to 4 weeks to decide on a name. I like to get to know them before I saddle them with a life long title. (once named a dog Otter, only to find he hated water....oh well....it was still a good name for him since he was otter colored, sort of a UPS brown)
There are lots of good web sites with name suggestions. Search 'baby names' or 'puppy names' and you'll find lots of suggestions. I start a list of names I think might work and add to it for a while. After a bit, the right name seems to fall out of the list and land on the baby. My dog herd, Sophie, Mr. Biggles and Dinah all fit their names and their names fit them.
Enjoy your pup and before long you'll be hearing that big, deep bark that will give you peace of mind.
