Vaseline Mess

So... I read to put bag balm or vaseline on my pullets' crowns to protect from frostbite. So far so good on the frostbite, but their heads are just black with dirt stuck on the goop. I want them prettied up for showing off to holiday company. Any tips on cleaning/shampooing their heads?

I wouldn't put water on them if its that cold there that you needed to put on vasaline. Try wipe it off perhaps.

Yes, wipe it off. And use lot of towels LOL!

I have not tried, but strongly suspect, that if just wiping doesn't do the job well, it would be useful to put on MORE vaseline and then wipe. Think of it as 'rinsing with vaseline' so to speak

You may not need as thick a coating next time?

I'm chuckling here because using vaseline is like using hand lotion- just a little and rub it in gently. You are going to have fun today- use clean rags!
