I have sporadically had a veggie garden, not usually large enough to do a lot of canning. I'm hoping to make it bigger this year. We have to fence it in to keep the chickens and dogs out of the ripe tomatoes. I'll be spending a lot of time on www.theeasygarden.com this spring!
Yep, we have a huge garden. We have blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, pears, pecans, and grow lots of squash, beans, peppers, tomatoes, etc. I too plan to spend some time on TheEasyGarden. I really want to learn how to can this year too.
Always had a garden of some sort back home (in NC). Haven't had one since being in Arkansas, until this year. I'm planning my idea of the basics for a veggie garden:
Sweet corn, cucumbers, maters, summer squash, pumpkin, and sunflowers for the shade they provide from the west, late afternoon sun. Also might decide to grow some kentucky wonder pole beans up my sunflower stalks. Also going to have some marigolds growing in patches throughout my veggie garden for pest control. Some zinnias thrown in too; for no other reason than I like the color of em.
What I'm really excited about is that I finally get to plant a medicinal garden, modeled after a friend of mines. For that I've ordered:
Pac choi, pepper (the mild kind to make paprika with), rosemary, pennyroyal, basil, dill, cilantro, sage, parsley, feverfew, lemon balm, catnip, and camomile. Several of these are also known for drawing flutterbys (butterflies in Pooh language) as well as their medicinal uses.
There will be a fountain in the center of the circular herb bed.
Oh, and some red trumpet vine that I received from a generous member that I'm hoping will go a long way towards disguising the ugly, outdated satelite dish that my SO never got around to taking down.
My idea of composting is to throw leftovers over the garden fence. With my health issues, I have to give consideration to my energy levels and pick my projects carefully.
And almost forgot: Mother Nature is doing a fine job of providing us with pecans, black walnuts, peaches, apples, and blackberries; so I'm not gonna mess with her.
I have about an acer of a garden. We have grapes, blueberries, strawberries, tomato, green peppers, zucchini, corn, green beans, peas, onions, hot peppers or may kind, banana peppers, egg plant, melons on many kind, potatos, sweet potatos, broccoli, coliflower, brussel sprouts,,,,geee did I miss anything? I am sure I did. Our goats and chickens provide well for the natural fetilizer
got tons of stuff last year we had maybe about a half of acre or better.
picture of my garden we also had more sqush plants in a different area so this was not all it.
I can a lot of stuff from it but i also vaccumm seal other stuff. I love the canned stuff though the best

Wow, another negative return gardener! I plant so many seeds that if I get at least one snap pea, it's frozen immediately to join my 15 years of other snap peas! I am on my 3rd snap pea!
turnerstar31 your garden is beautiful! Last year was my first year to grown anything because I usually kill every plant I touch. So I didn't waste alot of money planting stuff that was just going to die anyway, I planted squash, okra, tomato, bell pepper, cukes and corn one of each plant. Everything grew great execept the corn because I planted it in the shade. Cukes took over the yard and had to give alot way at work, not nearly enough tomatos, Everything took off with really no help from me(which is probably why they grew for me) Doing it again this year. Still have my canned pickles so we will never starve!!!
