Somewhere around here we looked at the hatchery chicks versus breeder chicks or homebred chicks. It seems that the hatchery chicks don't fair so well as layers. I know I have had trouble with my flock and they were barely turning a year old when problems started showing up. I'm hoping my home hatched chicks will fair better.
