Probably easier to drag out of the woods too. The one I just got, I drug it up a ravine and the front legs would get stuck on branches. Have to remember that.

Yeah Brunty, I know the "deer grabbing everything on way out" walk.

I usually hunt public land, so no four-wheelers. I usually use a foldable cart to get deer (and gear) out of the woods. I learned the hard way to tie all the legs in, or it makes for a very troublesome walk out.

Not sure why that is but i am not familiar with the size of Ohio's deer population and number of hunters. But I should also point out this was my best season ever fitting for my 15th year anniversary. I usually only take one nice buck and if i don't see a nice one I just shoot a doe. This year the Luck went my way for sure.

In Michigan private land hunters can usually buy quite a few doe tags (which is what you want for properly managing a herd) but state land hunters have to draw one in a lottery since they limit the number of tags issued for each county.

The doe I got was actually injured from arrow and it was a mercy kill since I don't like to see them suffer and I had a doe tag!

Also in Michigan, what most hunters do is buy what they call a combo tag, you can use one for a doe if taken with a bow and the other tag is restrictive to a deer that has 4 points on one side or better. Or you can take 2 bucks one has to have a legal point (usually spike horns) and the second is restricted to have 4 points on one side or better.

But its not a good management strategy thats for sure we have about 4.5 million deer in Michigan and a decreasing number of hunters. What we need is an earn your buck approach where you have to shoot a doe first or something like that.

In my home county in Ohio, Knox (Jeff remember that it is Danville.)
- most everyone thinks that you should have to shoot 5 does before you can get a buck tag.

It takes me bout an hour drive, and 30 minute walk to get to "my spot"... but it has been to productive for me over the years to pass it up. I have closer places to hunt, but I keep getting drown back.
