By the sounds of it, the car never touched your duckling. It was the wind coming off the car as it sped by that caused the duckling to get the road rash. Like, ever was parked on the side of the road while a pulp truck speeds by? It shakes the whole car.
As far as what happened, that's exactly why my geese had to be pinned. Some of my neighbors would purposely speed up and try hitting my geese when they were crossing the road. (Talk about a house clearing out quickly when they heard on a scanner that the cops were coming because of this.) Another one of my neighbors said that they were going to purposely run over my geese. Then I've had several neighbors purposely run over cats and kittens. One of those cats was my favorite cat that belonged to the neighbor across the street, and I watched the person hit the cat on purpose. It died in my Mom's arms.
