Here's some pictures of the gang! This isn't everyone, but lots of the babies and some adults. That little guy in the last pic is the road rash duckling.

Also excuse the bread. A neighbor threw some over before I came out with pellets .

I have no way of controlling the roads, unfortunately. The city won't put up any signs for them either as Muscovies are considered invasive.

I missed the part where you said the ducks are wild, I thought that they belonged to you.

Maybe you should put up a little sign somewhere, like one of these:

I was actually considering this today. It's highly likely I'm going to get fined for having a sign in the yard, but I can still try.

I don't think so....not if it's on your property. But then again, I don't live in your town, so I wouldn't know... Good luck!

Sorry about this. By the sounds of it, the car never touched your duckling. It was the wind coming off the car as it sped by that caused the duckling to get the road rash. Like, ever was parked on the side of the road while a pulp truck speeds by? It shakes the whole car.

As far as what happened, that's exactly why my geese had to be pinned. Some of my neighbors would purposely speed up and try hitting my geese when they were crossing the road. (Talk about a house clearing out quickly when they heard on a scanner that the cops were coming because of this.) Another one of my neighbors said that they were going to purposely run over my geese. Then I've had several neighbors purposely run over cats and kittens. One of those cats was my favorite cat that belonged to the neighbor across the street, and I watched the person hit the cat on purpose. It died in my Mom's arms.

Yeah, people can be pretty awful. Unfortunately they are 'wild' ducks, so I can't really keep them confined or restrict them to the neighborhood. They actually go around town too. If you go to the local gas station they're usually there too begging for food .

There's been people out here that purposely go out of their way to hit some of the adults too. I've seen people swerve to do it. One of the big male Muscovies that visits us has a permanent limp on one side because he got nailed by someone.

We also have a sandhill crane that visits the lake that has a broken wing & leg (healed like that) from someone hitting him. Not sure how you hit a bird that's like 6 ft tall with a bright neon red face! We definitely need signs around here, but the city could really care less .
