VENT about eBay & PICTURES!

You can post a complaint against anyone using photos that don't belong to them. You can also post a complaint about people using text from other websites in their auctions.

I sold a scrap booking item on e-bay, and a week later I saw MY auction, word for word, on e-bay by another seller. I contacted e-bay through their reporting system, to report theft of my auction information (text), and the other seller had to change hers. E-bay will make sure people aren't stealing intellectual property, but they can only do this if someone contacts them with the proof.

Good luck.

Someone on here forwarded me this thread. I'm not a BO owner but I am thankful for the thread.

I just wanted to say a great big "Thanks!!" to all of you who keep people honest out there. I hope folks will continue to do so because the more that this kind of thing gets bought to folks attention, the less likely others will be to do it.

God Bless,

she must have seen this thread.....

Wow thank you for this link. My hubby had sent me that person ebay add and was stoked to find such great looking birds being that I want blues. Such a shame

We have so many nice breeders here on BYC there is really no reason to use those on ebay that could be lying. I have never bought anything from ebay and probably never will. I have won from Ovabid and still got a run around. Not a nice experience but everyone on BYC has been wonderful to deal with.

She's a member on here I'm pretty sure.

Hmmm...well no response to my email, yet...I was not trying to start anything I just wanted pics of her real birds....my own trio is not selling and I've decided to add to my flock of blue/black orps and saw that pic and almost peed my pants (in a good way!) LOL But then I realized it looked almost too good to true. So I googled it and it was. Sighs.

There may be no birds, there once was a seller on Ebay selling eggs, everybody got perfect sized clean infertile eggs. We got together and filed with the attorney general in that persons state. He is no longer a seller and I believe the investigation is still being pursued.

Anybody can pick up a dozen eggs from the supermarket steal some pics and sell hatching eggs. As shipped eggs have varying fertility and hatching, and due to postal mishandling they could make a tidy sum before being caught on too. This is why we need a auction based system on this site, a poser would and have been caught on here with a little more speed than ebay. Any seller that would use another's pictures for selling should be assumed to be a fraud.

Ebay has it's place, it is unfortunate that the new CEO does not care about their standing or place. I listed eggs for FREE, only asked for he actual cost of shipping on here. NO response, on ebay I sell allmost every clutch, there is just a wider audience on ebay, and really though we are strong membership, many do not know we exist.

This is a common comment here and frankly it astounds me. I can pretty much guarantee you that every single person who sells an egg on Ebay is a member here. They might not be active, but it takes about 2 min to register, and there are what 30,000+ members here?

I've bought eggs here, and had pleasant experiences, but in the end ebay is a much safer place to buy because it is a site for buying and selling, not for chatting. It is set up so that the seller has recourse.

Every serious breeder that I've dealt with has sold on ebay or eggbid even if those are not the places where I originally contacted them. And I know for a fact that they have all been members here as well. This is not to say that there aren't scammers or amateurs selling eggs on ebay. I know people wh have had their own pictures stolen and used to sell eggs on ebay.

BUT

If I was going to run an egg scam, this is where I would be selling.
