I suspect I have at least one hen who has vent gleet. At first I thought it was maybe just diarrhea but after a closer look, it looks like vent gleet (pic attached). I got monistat to treat externally and added ACV to their water. Also gave kefir with some garlic powder. Any other recommendations? She’s still laying and eating/drinking normally.

I also have an olive egger that has had almost a bare bottom for maybe a month now. At first I thought she may be growing new feathers but it doesn’t look like anything is coming in. Thoughts?

And finally, I’ve recently unfortunately not been able to really dedicate the time I want to their feed, supplementation, etc due to nearing the end of my pregnancy but am due soon SO, what natural/organic things can I add to their feed/water or anything to help keep them healthy?

I probably wouldn't use garlic power. What do you mean by using monistat to treat externally? I just got a hen through what appeared to be vent gleat with monistat after 5 days twice a day, in the vent and orally.

Oh sorry, I meant externally like we put it on the inflamed area and into the vent as best I could

Hello... following this post. I too am dealing with this issue. I am going to start treating tomorrow. How many mLs of Monistat and how many times a day? I have the Monistat 3-day. Was planning to put in and around the vent, but I read she should have it orally as well?

I was told a hen cannot have antifungal such as miconazole orally or the eggs will be ruined for life. I sure would like to know if that isn't the case because I've been dealing with 2 hens for a month with gleet.

And if there's a trick to keeping monistat from being pooped right back out 2 minutes later, please share!

I too a probably many are addressing this issue. I am trying to learn how to treat it in the midst of my flock so the others don't get it too. Any more simple and non stressing support it's appreciated. I did read that soaking the bottom in warm water and Epsom salt the 10 minutes every other day is advised, and then adding the monistatt cream after it's advised. Also adding the proper amount of vinegar to the flocks water, and add in some probiotics to help prevent this is also recommend. Looking into all of this and attempting them. I do wonder, should I remove the effected hen to help her destress in a separate area???

@AGeese - please clarify, why is it necessary to treat both orally and on the vent? Are you talking about pills (orally) and cream (in the vent)? Do you insert into the vent and how far? I think I may have a hen starting with this but not sure. Her vent is actually clean but she has soft dark poops dirtying her feathers for two days now so she requires regular cleanings. I am not soaking her as she hates it and it is so ridiculously hot here I don't want to stress her. Appreciate your help.
