I have a year old or so Silkie who presented with a minor prolapse. Only saw some pink healthy tissue emerge when she pooped or was startled. I was treating with haemorrhoid cream (prep h) and monistat incase of vent gleet and decided to just give the whole flock plain yogurt mixed with nutridrench (twice a week) and apple cider vinegar in the water. She was eatting and drinking, acting as normal. Only appeared slightly puffed up, similar to the others but the weather has just dropped below zero 2 weeks back so I figured that may be why. A few days ago I noticed a large mass under her vent that is crusty on the top and appears to be an abcess? Or is this the prolapse pertruding from the inside? I assumed she had got pecked as her vent had some signs of bleeding and this infected mass was new. It is firm and hard not squishy. At this point I decided to bring her into the house where she can be warm and isolated. I have been doing epsome salt baths every 2 days, raw honey applied just inside the vent once a day, monistat applied to the outter swollen vent 3x a day and just inside the vent once a day and hemmeroid cream applied just inside the vent 1x per day. I am applying polysporin to the “abscess” 3x a day. Her water still has apple cider vinegar in it and I spray her vent with vetericyn plus 3x a day
She continues to decline. The feces went from being watery and white/pastey with some solid bits to green and now often consisting of only blood and mucus. The bleeding has progressively got worse, it appears theres a sore on just the inside of the vent that bleeds much more anytime I apply medication. Sometimes as she is straining she just pushes out globs of blood. As a result I have not tried to fix the prolapse, I worry if I insert a gloved finger fully she will bleed out. I have been hoping it would retract when swelling subsides but so far the swelling is barely improving. I have squirted iodine into the vent in hopes of preventing further infection. She is eatting and drinking less and less. She appears as of yesterday to spend all day completely fluffed up and straining as if trying to poop which she was not doing before. When I apply creams to the protruding tissue she squats and shakes like she is trying to push it out. I am able to get a raw egg into her once a day, and plain yogurt mixed with tums and nutridrench once a day. She is no longer finishing her bowl and just taking a few bites. She will no longer eat any actual crumble, even when mixed/soaked.
Has anyone got any suggestions? What would you try differently
Thanks!
