Please help…. I have a super spoiled flock of Polish ladies. They are 2 1/2 and I’ve had them from day one with no issues ever, until now. Over the past 2 weeks I noticed their droppings in the coop at morning time was changing to loose/watery stools. Then on Friday I noticed what appeared to be blood in one. Took a sample and had it tested, which I had to drive over 2 hours to do. I was told Cocci so on Friday I started Corid treatment. VERY long story short my ladies aren’t improving and the smell of the poop in the coop in the morning is completely overwhelming. Called vet back to discuss and I was told “I do not know why you were told they have Cocci as my report doesn’t show that”? Told to stop Corid immediately and put out water with probiotics instead and they’ll call me back shortly. I do not trust these people at this point and am looking for help. After researching like crazy this morning I do feel it’s vent gleet. The symptoms are 100% spot on. Question is, what is best treatment and how soon can I start it as they have been on Corid? Please help… 🙏

Corid is not unsafe, so I would continue treating. What dosage are you using? I would call them back tomorrow, and ask them to look up the results once again and read it to you. Make sure they did not see worm eggs, as they can cause a little blood as well. Having a few coccidia oocysts in a fecal is okay, but many is bad. All chickens have a little, but they should build up tolerance to it as they grow up. Occasionally, you may see a little intestinal shed that is orange red, like tomato, and that is normal.

Do you see any bare red or burned areas around vents? Post pictures if you do. Once you finish Corid for 5-7 days, then give some probiotics. Then you might consider worming them with Valbazen or SafeGuard. Vent gleet is not that common. It comes more from drinking dirty water, or from things not cleaned out often. It is treated with antifungal medicines, such as Medistat powder or Nystatin. Some use Monistat orally, but that is off label.

I’m using the 9.5ml per gallon of Corid. And I will definitely call back and ask those questions.

Yes to bare, red areas. And one is a dirty mess (I’m bringing her in to wash, cleanup and trim feathers as necessary). It is only affecting 3, and they literally are together all the time. It’s very possible they got into water they shouldn’t have. Unfortunately we’ve had rain for weeks like you can’t believe. It’s been terrible. Their poop smells so bad. All of this came out of nowhere within the past 2 weeks. 🤦‍♀️ I just took pics of the 3 that are having the symptoms so you can see. Thank you for trying to help me 🙏
