Vent Gleet Will Not Go Away! It’s Been Months 😓

You are seeing worm eggs with the naked eye?
You would need a microscope to see Roundworm eggs. Tapeworm Proglottids you can see, they would be crawling about.

DE is not an effective dewormer. If you are seeing worms in the poop, then there's a heavy infestation. Worms don't leave their hosts very often unless there's nowhere else to go.
Most all anthelmintics on the market are also used in humans, so Fenbendazole would be a good choice to use to get rid of worms unless what you see are Tapeworms.

Corid is the standard treatment for Coccidiosis, but Toltrazuril and Sulfa Drugs can be used as well.

Yes, Acidified Copper Sulfate goes in the drinking water. If you want to treat only her, then you may have to house her separately for the 3 days to ensure she's drinking the treated water.

I am not using DE to treat for worms.
I used a human parasite cleanse for them. It consists of well know herbs to rid all people and animals of common worms such as pinworm, roundworm, whip worm, and possibly some others.
Yes, you can see round worms peeking there heads out of there “egg” and I’m for sure it’s roundworm that she has had.
I do not see anymore worms in her poop at this time, I will dose her again in a few days, to break the cycle.

Are you suggesting that I treat her for cocci too?
You mentioned sulpha drugs also work on cocci, would the copper sulphate be enough? Or do I need to do Corid too?
From what I’ve read, copper sulphate will rid them of all bugs!

I have experienced tapeworm with my dogs on occasion, I’ve been successful in treating them with DE, believe it or not, if caught right away it helps the tapes not get a good grasp on the intestine walls, if caught later takes awhile to get rid of them...just my experience with DE.

I always try a natural method first, it’s just in my nature. But with that said, I’m not afraid to use allopathic methods of needed.

Acidified Copper Sulfate is a antimicrobial which sanitizes water and is commonly used to treat fungal or protozoal infections in poultry.
I'm not sure about it killing all bugs, if that was the case, then there wouldn't be a need to treat with anything else.

Sulfa drugs are antibiotics used mainly to treat bacterial infection, but some are effective in treating certain strains of Coccidia.

If you have vet care, that would be best. Your vet can do some cultures to find the most effective treatment for your hen.

You CANNOT see roundworms peeking their heads out of eggs UNLESS you have microscopic vision. You CAN SEE maggots popping their heads out of eggs though.
If your hen has worms, as well as your other birds, give them Valbazen...1/2ml orally to each chicken, bye bye worms.
Let me re-phrase my comment and say that what I AM seeing in my chickens stool are roundworms and they CAN look like yellow/white “babies “ sticking the head out of what LOOKS like their egg. Maybe they are just “baby” roundworms that never had the change to get big cause I purged them out!
With that said, I appreciate your comment but I will continue to de-worm my small flock naturally because it works.
It may take longer but it’s less stress on a chickens body than some of these chemical options on the market.

Thanks for your support and care for my girl! I appreciate your suggestions.

I do not have a vet to help with this matter so I will try the copper sulphate and see how it goes.
If I can get this problem resolved I will update this thread to share the protocol that I used on this stubborn case of gleet!

Gratitude 🙏

Please post a photo. You might be seeing tapeworm segments. I've dealt with worms many times and know how to treat them.

I don’t have any pics to send at this time because they are not present in her droppings.
I too am familiar with parasites, I’ve been cleaning myself and consulting others for the past 21 years.
I am thankful for your suggestions 😊
