In the Brooder
I am new to chickens and have a flock of (7) hens - 2 1/2 years old. A couple weeks ago I noticed poopy butt on my buff Orpington. Her backside and feathers were very poopy. After researching, came to the conclusion of vent gleet. I washed her bum and dried. Have added acv to their water and given yogurt (occasionally). While her butt is fluffy again, if you look close on her and about half the flock you can see some white (dried on yeast or poop?) under their feathers. See photo of my Easter Egger. Is this a milder version? Or is this normal and have I’ve just never paid this much attention to their butts? Should it go away 100%? Should I try monostat? I have not used it. Now my lavender Orpington had (a lot) of poopy butt today so I cleaned her up. If over half the flock has some form of vent gleet is there anything else you’d recommend? I’ve checked for moldy food. The back corner of the coop roof was broken by a tree branch and a little moisture/rain was coming in to that corner of their coop sporadically (over summer) but that has been repaired. Their coop is dry and clean. They have good appetites and overall are acting normal - still laying (not sure if the eggs are ok?) I’ve never dewormed. Should I? Note, some of them just started molting. Thank you for your help!
