I agree, that has to be a prolapsed vent... have you looked it up? There was a link from the poster who suggested prolapse.

forced feed your hen if she does not eat or drink with one raw egg using a cathether and somewhat like the way doctors do to their patient who are unable to eat using a big syringe with a rubber tubing inserted instead of needles. the rubber tube is inserted via mouth through the esophagus directly to the crop of the bird and slowly pump the content of the syringe which is raw egg( a complete food).others they plaster the tubing to the beak with plastering tape and leave the tubing inside thier mouth until the bird is strong enough to eat for herself.sick birds need to eat and drink to sustain life.hope it helps

That does not look good. I believe that your hen prolapsed. The area looks severely infected. Recovery is unlikely. If she is still eating and drinking, then you could try antibiotics and a lot of cleaning and wound care at the site. But, if she is suffering, I would euthanize her.

hey there thanks for the help and helpful information everyone:)
Mrs Pepperpot is all healthly now and she is laying eggs as good as ever :)
she just needed a little tlc and spa treatments and little time alone and when i return her to the flock she ran straight back up to her sisters :)
