VENT PROLAPSE? PLEASE ADVISE

Do you see any maggots on the wound? Does it have a bad odor?
How is your hen acting, is she alert or lethargic?
Is she able to poop?

To me, that looks like Flystrike instead of prolapse. Flush/soak her with saline, chlorhexidine or betadine - rinse her really well. If you find maggots, get all those off.
Apply triple antibiotic ointment or vetericyn to the wound.

Thank you so much! I read your info & will start tomorrow am. I had rinsed her off, noticed the area & trimmed her feathers ASAP. I put witch hazel on her & then doused her w Neosporin... (one of the suggestions in the article says not to apply Neosporin bcz it creates a happy area for flies to lay eggs...?)
To answer your questions,
She is eating, drinking, pooping fine.
She has been acting fine, til yesterday when I noticed she distanced herself from the other girls.
She is about 7-8 years old & she was acting recently as if she were getting ascites, slowing down & resting a lot.... but I found this today....
I gave her a nice clean area to sleep tonight alone & will get a better look in the am.

No, Not a terrible odor. But the necrotic area is hard and kinda crusty. Are maggots UNDER that skin?? Should I remove that dead tissue?
I picked off about 3 maggots. I found two more areas that look like starting of new spots!
I washed her well with betadine & rinsed her well.
After removing the maggots, I put Neosporin on and inside the wound.
She’s pooping ok, eating & drinking.

If you found 3 maggots, then there are more. Can you see a vet?

Oh no!!
Yes, I can take her to a vet.
I picked off about 10 maggots from the big wound.
I didn’t find any maggots in the two new areas.
I was going to wash her entire body in the morning.
Do u think I should just take her the vet instead?

Snow, inside the house, had to get as close as she could to Goldie, who is roosting outside on my patio furniture)
Goldie is a great care taker. Always close to whomever needs her!!
