Help! My sweet Daisy has a prolapsed vent. We have secluded her in a dark room with a heater. We just noticed it yesterday and am pretty sure it was new as we spend time with our girls daily. It was not very big, about the size of a marble. We soaked her in warm water with iodine and then alternated treatment between prep h and honey. The prolapse looks much better and is retreating but there is a small white stick looking thing hanging out of the middle of it. We have pulled on it and it gave way about an inch and she got upset so we let it go and it went back in to the original position. Could this be part of her???? Or is it something that we need to get out. Here is a picture of what we are seeing.

It may be part of an egg membrane, so I would be inclined to pull it out. A prolapse can happen at the same time as egg binding or just from straining, and she might have had a shell-less egg which broke. I would give her water frequently, and offer some a Tums or a human calcium tablet to help harden her shells. Continue with keeping the vent moist, since it can die if the red tissue dries. Try to push the prolapse back inside after trying to remove the object.

When we looked at her again last night the prolapse had gone completely back in. We cannot see the object but I know it has to still be in there. She is drinking her water but she still looks miserable. Will whatever is in there come out or is there something else we can do?

I sure hope she passes it. She is obviously trying to get something out still. I have been watching her and she is trying to push something but can't seem to do it. She is my favorite girl and I hope she makes it.

Have you tried giving her a warm soak in epsom salt water? Sometimes that really helps with these things. I hate when they're doing poorly, worries you to no end.

We have soaked her in warm water and iodine. We started Saturday when we first noticed this. Did it three times yesterday and once so far today. We sprayed and cleaned it with Vetericyn plus after each soak. We have alternated prep-h and honey back there in the "nether region". Yuck!! But I don't want to lose her. She is my absolute favorite girl!!
