My 2 year old australorp has been ill the last couple days. She’s been content to just sit in her nesting box, not interested in treats (out of the norm for her), and drinking only a small amount of water. I was worried she might be egg bound so I soaked her for 15 minutes in an epsom salt bath. I noticed her vent seems to be swollen on the top. I sprayed with vetericyn and gave her some liquid poultry nutrition. I gloved up and applied some neosporin but her vent seems to keep twitching like she’s trying to push something out? I’m not sure what to do at this point.

I forgot to add her poops are very runny- watery and yellow.

It's normal for the vent to pulse or move.

Do you have photos of her poop?
Any lice/mites?
How old is she?

When was her last egg?
See if you can get her hydrated, then offer wet mushy feed.

If you think she should have laid an egg and hasn't, give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for a few days to see if she expels an egg or lash material.

In your title, you mention Prolapse. I don't see a prolapse, the vent has a nice color, looks clean and normal to me. (Do you have a photo of her? I'd like to see her face, I've seen one end, let's see the other:)).

Oh and Welcome To BYC! Glad you're here.

Hi this is my other account. After a few days we ended up taking her to a vet and they said she likely had a soft shell egg she was unable to pass. They gave her a calcium injection and another injection to get her muscles to contract. After 2 days she still hadn’t passed it. Not eating much, watery yellow poop. We took her back and she was sedated- They did an X-ray and found a HUGE soft shell egg. They decided to intervene and they ended up pulling out a lash egg and a soft shell egg. She is doing okay now and on a course of antibiotics for salpingitis.

Thank you for the update and photo.

I'm glad the Vet was able to remove the egg and lash material. Hopefully the antibiotics will be helpful too.
