Ventilation for this coop

When me and my husband were looking at it that’s exactly how it looks. Like those nails hold that board in and it runs the length of the coop. His idea was similar, to just take the board out or cut holes in it to get the appropriate ventilation.

I can take more pictures tomorrow too. Some from the inside this time and some farther away should help right?
Take the whole thing off if at all possible...can you see the edges of that board?
Hopefully there are no covered/hidden nails.
Pics from just the inside.

I agree with aart.
Take that whole board off and put hardware cloth there.

The inside pics I think we need to see are those areas deep inside above the wall where the rafters extend past the wall.

I cannot see the edges of that board on the outside. It’s sandwiched in there. You can kind of see it in this picture. There are three boards. The third board being the one that runs the length of the coop. I don’t know what the second board is attached to. My suspicion is that it’s a rafter.

I’ll make sure to get pics tomorrow morning when I let everyone out. If I don’t do it then I’ll probably forget. When I had taken these pics I wondered if I should climb up and take pics looking down on that board from the inside. I guess my instincts were right. 🤷‍♀️

The fascia is to the right....is that a nail I see, maybe going thru the fascia and into the board in question?
I'd just try to start prying those nails out...might be tempted to take a sawzall and/or a chisel and/or drill bit and/or......rip that sucker up!

Yeah, except it looks like that board (3) was put in before the trim board directly left of it. Might not be able to find a seam on that side. Might even have to pry off the trim board first.
or just cut flush with that trim board and make your own seam. that’s the beauty of a sawzall.

Hah. I know. I just like to make everything pretty, even on a chicken coop. :D I've done plenty of ratty looking sawzall jobs, but maybe that is just me. Although mostly I have uses a sawzall for demolition.

i’m with you. i wouldn’t put a coop up that i didn’t enjoy looking at.

but, i can also cut nice straight lines with a sawzall and a multi-tool.

I would be tempted to try and pull the fascia boards so I could get a pry bar involved to pull that bottom board.

A lot depends on how they built it. If there are nails in the ends that makes things harder but still not impossible.
