Ventilation?

I helped him install the fan and the motor is on the outside of the fan casing, which we sealed into the wall, so I think we're ok!

I just can't wait for the SUN to come out again! We are building our chicken run right now and digging holes when they immediately fill with water is the WORST.

Yep! We're fencing a new area for our goats - and of course much of our soil is clay- so it gets wet and turns into a slip'n'slide … then we get that nice weather and it turns into rock hard ground… just when you need the moisture to pack the clay into the holes around the wood posts … there's no moisture. Sigh.

If the fan is moving dust, as in exhausting the coop, the motor will get dusty.
You could always put fan in 'backwards' or wire it backwards(if possible),
and blow air into the coop, pushing all dust out other vents/windows.
Less effective for cooling but safer in terms of fan fire.

My hubby and i discussed a filter and blowing the motor out once a month to prevent this from happening.

Welcome to byc. I I have a 6' x 12' metal building for my coop. Because it's metal and would emit heat from the Sun in the summer, I insulated mine with 2' wide bubble wrap (large bubble) between the wall joists and rafters. On the man door end of the coop, I installed two vents that can be closed off for winter at floor level on each side in the corners. On the outside I put soffit vents.
On the other end of the coop at the top, I installed a vent fan that vents to the outside with a timer. Good luck with your project and welcome to retirement.
