Venting about Roosters

@LikeTurkeys why wont you let your rooster crow since your allowed to have roosters id say thats selfish
I want to emphasize again that I'm not hurting him. He doesn't even feel uncomfortable (not that I can tell anyway). He goes about his daily business, same as he always has with the exception that his crows are quieter. So why shouldn't I put a collar on him?

He can't talk so how could he tell you? We tend to put human emotions and feelings on livestock animals. Chickens live for now... They don't sit there pondering if they're going to be eaten. They do know when something is choking them and uncomfortable. They also know they have an urge to crow and can't...

Id still rather they be eaten then have a collar...

I have my opinion and you have yours. I'm not budging and neither are you. Let's agree to disagree.

I only eat the 'extra' ones :D
Me too.

Do you eat meat?
Yes, I already said I am willing to eat roosters. The argument was a rhetorical one.

Well, if he was stilling going around backwards, not eating, not mating, not acting normal, then I would take it off. That's how I tell whether he is uncomfortable or not. He still crows. And he's not being choked (I would see that). It's not eradicating his crow completely, but it does make it quiet enough so we can sleep in the mornings.

Hey, if you think roosters shouldn't have collars, that's fine. But I think it falls into the same category as free ranging. Some people think that all birds deserve it, others don't. It's not selfishness.

I do fenced in free ranging, only animals that can get in are air predators, but we have that part covered...

I guess you CANT agree to disagree :gig it was worth a shot

How are collars and free ranging the same?

I want to hear your opinions
