Venting about Roosters

I know someone that wont eat home eggs cause they come from a chicken butt but the Walmart ones are fine
There's your sign!
Society has been trained by corporations to play into their profit motive. They play to the fragile sensibilities of those that don't want to wrap their heads around 150 million chickens a day being slaughtered.

I recently received my first rooster. Had no idea what to expect. And live in suburb area. I did not know he will crow all day long. And I used a heat lamp to keep the warm at night in the midwest winters and any sound will trigger him to crow all night. They are big enough now to not need heat lamp. They were probably big enough then to be honest.
I do have neighbors and am concerned because I dont know a couple of them, while the others could freely complain.
I have been considering the collars but IF AND ONLY IF I RECEIVE COMPLAINTS that I cannot diplomacy my way out of. We do have predators and he does need to be able to warn his hens. I certainly agree with you but have gotten in a bind. The reason I got him was because my last flock of hens was devastated by predators. So the big guy needs to protect my flock. All I can say is I'll see what happens and wont take any measures unless absolutely necessary, I want them to live as close to natural as possible.

I am new to chickens. Had planned to start this summer but a friend offered us 2 abandoned chicks from her farm. One turned out to be a boy. We picked up 2 silkies at the feed store sale, again, one turned out to be a boy. After the first boy tried to murder the second we sent him back to the farm he came from and I decided no more roos. I love them and I loved my first one but he was an american game and the learning curve was steep for a beginner. I wanted to add to my flock so I picked up 2 sebright pullets and 2 wyandotte bantam pullets. Well guess what. One of the wyandottes started crowing 2 days ago! I can’t win! Im going to try and make it work because its a bantam silkie rooster and a bantam wyandotte rooster and honestly how bad could it really be? But if it doesnt work he is going back to the lady I purchased him from. Roosters are special and have a purpose but don’t buy chickens without an end game for them if they turn out to be boys! From now on I am only buying chickens that have already laid eggs!!
