Well, I woke up this morning to a lot of quiet in the room next door...
Even more died last night...

3 SLW's, another frizzle, another silkie, and a BR...

I'm not too impressed with Mcmurry...
I have always ordered from Welp, but I really wanted a mix of standard/bantam...From Welp, I have lost 3 chicks TOTAL from both of my orders of 30 chicks each. This time I lost almost my whole order....I'm almost debating getting a refund and ordering from Welp again...Or just give them another chance and hope the next batch makes it...
Can't blame the weather either - it was warm the beginning of this week...Last year I ordered them when it was below 20* and snowy...

I'm depressed now...

I would find some locally, but no one has the Milles at a reasonable price.

Oh, I a so sorry to hear that!!!! OMG!!!

Good Luck and God Bless!

Bantams do not ship well, and D'Uccles in particular are not hardy. They seem to be the first to go every time.

I am so sorry for your loss! This is heart-breaking.

I've ordered from McMurray's before and have always been very happy with them and their service. I only lost 1 out of 26 during transport.
I guess the current weather is not helping and they may have gotten cold during the trip.
And some breeds are hardier than others as well.

I know, it's no real consolation, though...

Oh no! I planned on ordering my very first chickens but now I'm not sure if I could deal with opening a box and finding dead babies. So sad to hear about your babies. I think I may have to buy from a local breeder once I get to RI.

I hope it all works out for you.

Ok. I'm gonna chime in on this one. I can relate to your dissapointment and heartbreak. This was my first year ordering chicks. I ordered 50 bantam chicks from IDEAl and got them the first of Feb and all are health and more importantly...alive. I ordered 26 varied standard sized chicks from McMurray and the first shipment, half were dead and by the next day, I was left with 5 live chicks. The representative was very nice and said she would reship the entire order the following week. I expressed my concerns about maybe I was too far of a distance from them to safely ship. She said no. They should be fine, just may have been mishandled or left in a drafty area. They always ship on Saturday only, "but the mail is still moving on Sundays". I get my second shipment, again shipped on a Saturday and arrive on Tuesday. Open the box and 1/3 are dead. I have 7 live chicks. They offered to send them again when the weather is warmer. I declined. Even in nice weather, I feel that that's too long to be in the mail. I will only order from hatcheries that are closer to me from now on. It's very dissapointing because the Blue And. & BLRW that I ordered didn't make it. Just thought I would share....
