Venting -- Postal Service lost my chicks

I feel so sad and angry, I needed to vent somewhere

My order of 7 chicks from MPC has gone missing. As of yesterday morning, they were at distribution center just a couple of hours away from my house. I was so excited, I thought I'd have them yesterday. But they never came. My local post master (who is great) is trying his best to track them down, but all he can tell me is that they are either stuck in that same warehouse -- and no there will answer the phone -- or they were mis-delivered somewhere with no record being kept. I told the post office that I am willing to drive to go get them, because the warehouse only makes one delivery to our areas each day -- at 7 a.m. -- and I fear tomorrow will be too late. I'm so upset to think of these fragile little birds sitting in a warehouse. I regret ordering chicks now. I feel like I am causing them to suffer and perhaps die.

How can someone get a box marked "live animals" and just toss it aside and not take care to see it delivered properly?
Sorry to hear about your chicks. I hope they are safe and being taken care of. Sounds like someone has taken them. What good is a tracking number if your shipment cant be located. Probably some misguided animal rights activists that work for the postal service. What ever the case I'll have your chicks in my prayers.

I know I’m a little late to this post but I wanted to let you know that I also had major problems with Sacramento when we ordered our chicks from Hoover’s in February. They wouldn’t update the tracking and lost the chicks in the warehouse. On the 3rd day of not getting them we went to our local post office in Newman to ask for any help they could give. They told us they would make some calls.

About 3 hours later they called us to let us know they had the chicks. One of the postmen actually drove the 1.5 hours to Sacramento to find our chicks and brought them back. We were so grateful for or local post office for going above and beyond.

I’m glad all of your chicks made it! The stress of waiting for them is the worst.
I am having lots of trouble too! My eggs are late and boy were they expensive! I will try and track them so hopefully, they don't go to Sacremento! :fl

I hope you get them soon, and the packaging looks intact. Shipped eggs are tough under the best of circumstances.

OMG...that is awful to not know where they are and if they are being taken care of....
I went to our local post office to pick up some supplies for our horses being sent to California from Colorado yesterday and received the three boxes to get home and open them and found that one which was supposed to be 24.2 lbs. of poultice for my stallions legs was instead 8 hardback TRUMP Fear books
in the box from my horse supplier. How did that happen??? The poor person expecting the books is probably thinking the same thing...still waiting to hear from UPS and or the post office as to what to do now... at least there are no living beings involved. Good luck...

I ordered eggs from someone in CA, they went to Sacramento, who shipped them to Alabama, then back to Sacramento, then to me in WA. Eggs were broken and one was unwrapped. The post office yelled at me because it was "addressed wrong". I had received eggs from the same place 3 weeks prior, and got them, addressed wrong or not.

YAY YAY YAY! :woot I just read through this whole thread with bated breath and I AM SO HAPPY about the beautiful ending! Your mama hen and babies are so precious! I can't wait for next season, when I can give babies to a broody. I have told my girls, you are the only babies that had to grow up with a human mommy. All chicks from now on will have a mama hennie! I will NEVER, EVER, order or ship my chicks. Travel and starving is so hard on them and they stress out bigtime. I do, however, order hatching eggs online. I have finally optimized my incubation and assisted hatch techniques and have had some excellent hatch rates! I highly recommend not trusting your incubator's internal thermostat and hygrometer (if yours comes with one). I bought 3 different brands of hygrometer and place one in each corner of the bator to make sure the temps aren't varying too much. If one side is cooler, I turn the tray around once a day. My last batch, cochins, I got 12 out of 15, my best hatch rate yet!
Anyway...please everyone, strongly consider driving however far to get your babies, don't let them suffer through the uncertainty and cruel conditions they encounter through the mail! Check the BYC buy/sell/trade section for breeders near you, or search your local Craigslist. I have sold most of my babies on CL. I have 7 cochins to place and love being able to meet the people my babies go to! I only raise chicks for companionship, layers and show line birds, so I am careful who I sell to.
But anyway...PLEASE KEEP UPDATING US WITH PICS! :love :jumpy :love
What a beautiful Sussex you have btw! I have a coro and love her so much! :love
