Venting -- Postal Service lost my chicks

I feel so sad and angry, I needed to vent somewhere

My order of 7 chicks from MPC has gone missing. As of yesterday morning, they were at distribution center just a couple of hours away from my house. I was so excited, I thought I'd have them yesterday. But they never came. My local post master (who is great) is trying his best to track them down, but all he can tell me is that they are either stuck in that same warehouse -- and no there will answer the phone -- or they were mis-delivered somewhere with no record being kept. I told the post office that I am willing to drive to go get them, because the warehouse only makes one delivery to our areas each day -- at 7 a.m. -- and I fear tomorrow will be too late. I'm so upset to think of these fragile little birds sitting in a warehouse. I regret ordering chicks now. I feel like I am causing them to suffer and perhaps die.

How can someone get a box marked "live animals" and just toss it aside and not take care to see it delivered properly?

I am so sorry! For you and especially for the chicks. What does MPC stand for? I want to make sure to be cautious when ordering from hatcheries.

They are doing great! I don't have any recent pictures, but probably need to take some. Momma hen raised them until they were 4.5 weeks old, and since then, they have been carving out their own niche in the flock. This past week, they've started moving onto the main roost at night. The blue orpington who was so sick, is now looking healthy and beautiful -- she has such pretty blue lacing on her feathers. I'm excited to see them as full-grown chickens.

The Momma hen molted as she was raising them, and her head feathers are now totally white. I guess that is what raising kids will do to you. :D

MPC is My Pet Chicken and from what I gather is somewhere where people can sell chicks, not a hatchery, more of a craigslist for chickens. But I have not used it, so I could be wrong.

MPC is My Pet Chicken. It is a web-based site that sells chickens. I don't believe they hatch themselves but broker between you and a couple of different hatcheries. I have no quarrel with MPC -- they were not to blame for the delay in shipping -- the the chicks were well packaged with heat pads. It was the fault of the US Postal Service.

We got chicks from MPC in July. I have no complaints at all. 1 did not survive but they reimbursed me immediately no questions asked. Here they today.
